With more and more people living with their parents until they are 35 and only a few weeks ago, the social welfare rules were changed so that children's allowance can continue to be paid to parents for their 18yo children, it does seem that becoming an adult at 18 is no longer what it used to be? When you consider that Mehole Martin didn't do this back in 2004 along with his workplace smoking ban, it really was a different universe back then https://www.rte.ie/news/health/2024/0514/1449085-smoking/

And the nanny/ big brother state continues unfettered. I can go buy fags in Portugal for for 5 quid. Here I need to mortgage my house.
Now I smoke only Cuban cigars and the odd cigarillo - and keep one in my humidor for when Putin has finally had enough of Nato tomfoolery, plus a very nice emergency single malt - mine's a Bowmore 18....
But this is just ludicrous altogether. Children needing Garda escorts walking past migrant tents...and the whole place falling into rack and ruin ...and THAT is what ' concerns' them. 🤯😡
Imma gonna need a puff of something Cuban to calm me down.

Sure half the cigarettes sold here are sold on the black market so it'll make fuck all difference.
I do agree with banning those single use vapes though.
I bought a LUXE reusable/rechargeable one, think it was €65 or something but the refills are cheap as chips.
In fairness, I only use it when I'm having a few scoops on a weekend night.

What I don't understand is why there's this obsession with cigarettes when drink companies and, particularly, gambling companies are free to promote their vices at will.

I don't know is it just me but gambling advertising seems to have blown up like crazy recently. You can't turn on the TV without seeing an ad for Paddy Power or the latest betting app.

Are cigarettes more damaging than gambling?

And to think I called you "Lady" Willow 😧
Shur I'm from the bog Myles🤣. I took up pipe smoking 30 years ago for a few weeks and himself threatened me with divorce - saying he didn't want to look at Peig when he came home🤣🤣. I have been asking every year if I can break out the pipe....so far the answer is a resounding 'No' 🤣🤣
Love my baccy.

Ireland's a mad aul kip for drink & smoke:LOL:
It's been made to be a real irritating pathetic nanny state - precious, expensive, prohibitive and unobtainable, while yet a short hope away on the plane you can have it all at a fair and reasonable normal cost.
Government feckery with the smoking age certainly opens up opportunity for the black market.

Well done again, FFGN😄

So you can get pissed, vote, join the Army and go get killed in the Leb but you're not allowed light up a fag.

This won't go down well above in Sligo will it Buddy?
Who's going to enforce? Parents, teachers, bosses and the tobacco drug squad?

I don't see many young tobacco cigarette smokers around town anyway, mostly toasted aul soak's lurking on the street outside bars and philosophical arty types hanging around at tables outside cafes, right & left respectively.

The new regulations will certainly cause a bit of a stir in some locations . . .

I bet none of you smoked Will's Woodbine in packs of 5. I bought them in
Mrs Bennet's shop in Carrickmacross on the Blayney road and smoked them. They were a lot better than used tea in a pipe which was my standard fare until then.

They pick on ciggies because its low hanging fruit. I think they should tackle organised crime and leave the people to choose what they want to do. No drugs mind you. The toughest man I ever knew smoked Player's Navy Cut. At 58 he joined forces with me against the local heavy gang which were violent bullies. They did not like me because at age 17 I pulled the ear rings out of them and they bled in a row in the Granada Ballroom. I admit he died from cancer of the throat and was also a drinker of bottled Guinness.

I don't smoke now for years but am considing starting to smoke a pipe again with real Yachtsman and Carroll's plug tobacco.
