Take this with a grain of salt, and it probably won't happen but remember all those super cool Northern lights seen across the planet, lower than normal so we could even see them here in Ireland? Well, that was because the Sun let out a huge CME that if it hit Earth we would have had all our technology wiped out and put back into the 1800s technologically wise.

Back in 1859, the Earth took a direct hit from the Sun, now knowns as the Carrington event. That event sat a CME hit us but thankfully we weren't that advanced technology so it had a minimal effect if that same CME (Coronal Mass Ejection) hit us today it would wipe out all our electronics in an instant and they would never work again. Think of everything, power plants, cars, TVs, radios, freezers, etc. IT would mean total chaos and then the end of civilization.

Well, guess what folks, the Sun is about to burp again, at the end of the month according to some. It's believed that perhaps it could hit us this time, I myself think we will survive as it passes and avoids us hopefully, maybe we will get some more cool Northern lights, but if it does hit us, well at least I would have warned you all! lol

There are of course 2 things you can protect your electronics with, A faraday cage, or a microwave which technically is a faraday cage, however, if the world has gone to shit, popping your Samsung S23 into the microwave won't do much as the cell towers will never work again!

Naturally, the Government may have protection for things like their generators and they will have their own emergency supplies, but for the everyday folks like us, well its every man woman, and child for themselves if we end up in a shit hit-the-fan scenario.

For those of us living in Ireland, we can regroup at Val's farm, he will look after us as we jerry-rig a Wind Turbine and eat Liberace his Gay bull.

Sir what is a Coronal Mass Erection?
Myles, my dear friend, I fear you have sex on the brain! You need to visit escorts Ireland and sort out a visit to one of our new Ukranian friends.

As for a CME, Coronal Mass Ejection, its when our Sun burps in layman's terms.

The Sun has hundreds of explosions every day on its surface, every now and again it lets out a huge explosion that sends highly charged particles across our solar system, we sometimes get in the way and you get what is known as the Northern lights, those particles hitting the planet's magnetosphere.

Sometimes, however, the explosion is so powerful it causes a massive spike of electricity, which basically fries all our power circuits. Thankfully we haven't had one since the Carirngton event and we had no electronics to speak of that would be fried back then. But it is likely to happen again, the only question is when?

Good question, If I were running this show this thread would be deleted. I would send it to the horse manure heap to grow mushrooms, keep them, in the dark and feed them plenty o' shit.

It is getting impossible to find a thread now.

I thought that you liked to be informed.
RB is spot on with this thread.
It's a real occurrence.
Qquebec had a fair chunk of It's electrical transmission wiped for a few days in the late 70s because of same phenomea.

Its like scares about asteroids, Yellowstone blowing, Ghosts, Goblins, Glowbull Warning, all talk and no action.

Yet aging starvation gets no mention.

Mankind has only been sensible to these infrequent occurrences for the last 200 years or so. When I say that I mean we have only been reliably recording, measuring and communicating these phenomena for a tiny fraction of the Earth's history, so it is hardly surprising that we have not witnessed them directly, for which we should be thankful.

There was a volcano event in the 6th century which effected Ireland. It is recorded in tree remains.

However that is all.

It's a very real threat Val, one that will happen we just don't know when. It happened just over 100 years ago.

We do have the technology to protect vital infrastructure, we just don't have the will.

They put up the ACE satellite as a precaution giving us a few minutes to shut down vital infrastructure.
Call me a cynic but I am rooting for the sun in this one. That would put paid to their plans re cbdc and global governance. Wouldn't like to be in a dumb or bunker if this particular event were to occur...
On the minus side - NPPs are a worry.

You mean a blow out from the sun? It's 13.4 billion years old. The only possible problem is if it would knock out
computers and cripple the banks.

Tell me of any sphere of your life that doesn't depend on computing at some point.

I have been forced to put my 2 credit union accounts and my three bank accounts in two banks
on line. I can still go into all of them. It is all held on computers and so is my tax. I would prefer
if there were bank staff and offices to use. So I do not like this and I am in the process of moving my money
into real assets.

Not in a tractor though. Circuits be fried.
Our Val may have classic Ford 4000 with a titchy old tanker on the back which may well survive the event, and all will be grand until he runs out of diesel and tries to phone the depot for some more, and then his problems really will start.
