The name Sarsfield springs from the famous Irishman and warrior Patrick Sarsfield. Hopefully this thread will serve for discussion which does
not fit into the main threads. Please try to keep comments and posts on their proper threads. A poster might be interested in one topic only and
needs to see all posts on that topic on one thread. Posts on other discussion sites should be confined to that specific thread, we don't want
out chat contaminated elsewhere.

Of course it is OK to post on a news item which is not already a thread on this thread.

While it is vital that the identity of each contributor is strictly protected here, I believe it would help if posters state their
country or state such as Ireland, Scotland, France New York, Mexico etc. The language differs slightly in those areas and words can
can have totally different meanings. I find it great to be able to know weather conditions in far away places and things like fuel prices.

When I was last in America in 2001, there was a huge difference in Gas/diesel prices compared to Britain and Ireland. Now the gap is
narrowing which I find interesting.

I remember about 1977, I was working in Feltrim quarry North Co Dublin with a construction company doing a welding job.

There was a lad there aged about 22 and he wanted to join the French foreign legion. I warned him not to, but he got his passport and off he went. After a few months he deserted and came back home.

Ignorance is no excuse in law but it could already be a capital sentence today for this lad. Joe Bollox should have pleaded with him not to go and failing that he should be committed to a mental hospital.

I remember there was an Dublin Irish lad on RTE news years ago, He decided to join nthe Briutish army and was heading to Iraq war.

He said the Irish Army was no exciting enough for him .

A different situation though between a lad that was foolish enough to join the English army and today's lad going and even clueless of the language.

It was not in Dedham, but in the City of Quincy. Everyone that lived south of Boston area would have been there. Even people in Dorchester and Southie would have made the trip out every few weeks for a change etc.
