The acreage of these fires is very large, and even now not many of them are in any sense under control. For example the Palisades fire pictured above is 17,234 acres, and this is arguable the most expensive real estate in the world!
There is some weird aspects of these fires that have already been highlighted by some:
– The way that this large number of very big serious fires have started almost simultaneously in widely different areas. Remember many of these places are not at all close to one another, and therefore are not fires that jumped from one to the other. For example two areas very effected are the Palisades and Pasadena, the former is on the coast and the latter is up in the mountains, they are a vast distance from one another.
– The mysterious cancelling of fire insurance by some big companies in the months before the fire. You can see videos where people described living in the one house for 70 years and only in the last few months these companies refused fire insurance, and the actor James Woods has confirmed much the same story about his area in Palisades.
In any case hopefully they can get this under control at some point but right now it almost seems like panic in the huge city of Los Angeles.
