A Sudanese national has been jailed for two months as a “deterrent” for breaking immigration laws after turning up at Dublin Airport arrivals without a passport, identification or travel documents.

Cloverhill District Court heard Monir Dafaallah (30), was one of about 37 people arrested for similar offences in recent weeks as part of an ongoing Garda National Immigration Bureau operation.

1,200 people from 105 Countries were granted Irish citizenship in a ceremony today.

I wish them well etc but on RTE's 6 o'clock news I noticed none of them knew the words to the anthem when it played at the ceremony's conclusion.

And seemingly they were told not to lose the traditions and culture from their original Countries because they will benefit Ireland greatly.

That idea is totally at odds as to what granting citizenship should be all about. It should be about - indeed it is in many other nations - the new people becoming (in this case) Irish and assimilating into Irish ways, traditions and culture. So within a generation or so they're fully Irish.

Everything the powers that be do is totally arse faced and against the national interest.
