“How are Ukrainian refugees in Ireland being treated?
Europe decided that they should be treated, as if their citizens were already a member of the EU. We have welcomed around 70,000 of them. They’re great. Accommodation is a bit of a push, as it was already stretched in Ireland, and the language has also been a bit of a problem, as we don’t normally learn Ukrainian in school. As a result trying to recruit teachers of English, is a bit of a challenge, because everybody wants them, but we are managing, and their presence has managed to keep a number of schools open which would otherwise have closed due to low numbers.
Ireland buys into the idea that diversity makes a country strong, and if you look at our current GDP its hard to argue against that.”
