Auld lad, as I understand it you are an Irish American probably about New York. If so you are, you are probably relatively decent and on here to mix it with folk from the Auld sod. You probably are very disappointed at the mess the site is in right now. So am I. The history is that the site was founded by Boston/Galway based Dan. He appeared to participate for the same reason but is a committed US Democratic party adherent. I agreed to assist and be assistant moderator as the site slowly gained members. I wanted to attract new members and encourage them here. 3 well known persistent wreckers were banned permanently. I only got involved to see what would happen if fair, but strict moderation was applied and over one and a half years I proved my point.
There is a history of Irish sites being driven into the ground by bad moderation including one called Political Irish Pish. There is a history of divisiveness in Ireland also. They always agree while struggling but disagree when success is achieved.
I insisted that the number of threads be constrained with new threads only being allowed for new events worldwide. Dan was a good moderator in the beginning. Dan always said he was badly treated on Political Irish and I expected he and I wanted nothing to do with it. Then it collapsed and its members came in here. Being used to the moderation which destroyed Pish, they insisted Sarsfield's rules be changed to Pish's rules and that the chaos bullying and personal abuse be allowed here.
I put the foot down and lead by Wolf a coup d'état was mounted. I refused to allow it, but to my utter horror Dan sided with the them and after two months you can see the mess this site is in. It tells you something about the Irish culture and way of doing things. This is how most of them think, they want their way and will only support messing, corruption and skulduggery. Myles kind of agrees with me on that, JPC is silent and the rest
went with Wolf. I hope that clarifies why this mess exists. I think the site should and will be wound up. A pity.
Val you have it all wrong --horribly wrong.
my mother was from a bog farm in Leitrim --they sometimes went without when young as their father who was a farmers vet died .
the poverty marked them for life and my mother became an alcoholic--who is a junky who drinks to the uninitiated.
and this in turn educated me to a degree and marked me for life .
my father was one of 10 on a small south east farm and got a half crown leaving the house at 16 to work for a cousin for no wages for 2 years.
my father was born in 1913 and during the Irish revival his primary school tragically taught everything through Irish and as a result he always said he memorized everything but understood nothing.
and he was intimidated by educated people all his life and would avoid their company.
he told me in a quiet moment once as he was extremely intelligent and had many interests and when i was born he had a small factory and he employed 20 people bottling soft drinks and Guinness for publicans with their own labels on each bottle .
he told me he ""was born a slave"" as the Irish state had not yet come into existence and the British saw us as their property to do as they wished and he felt his status was stateless with an intent by the authorities to enslave him only.
i put off going to America for 50 years and i traveled the rest of the world --i always thought America was the most violent thieving degenerate evil place on earth second only to the British in their thieving.
my wife bought a stay in new York for our 30th wedding anniversary and only for that i would never have gone there.
i am only telling you this Val as you have me very wrong and you have this site also wrong --
i have been on sites before and i really enjoy this one it is small for the moment but it has very interesting characters and a wide range of interests and above all it is not malicious/evil .
it has tangible decency and a sense of humor -- i really enjoy it and i have learned a great deal since joining -- i live in rural Ireland and it is IMPOSSIBLE to have a conversation with literate educated people about the Ukraine and the Irish language and music and poetry at the same time on the same day .
previously you could go an entire year without a conversation which would uplift you ---YOU OF ALL PEOPLE VAL KNOW THIS .
you are no different than me and my era you are just located a few miles away --to the likes of us Val this site is sacred and valuable and a necessary part of our mental good health .
by seeking to diminish it you have diminished yourself and the natural instincts of a rural intelligent experienced Irishman.
