Sarsfields has been going for over 3 years now. The site Declan has provided us has been a great lifeboat for all of us, as refugees from other sites. Sadly, though, despite being a website open to all, our membership has stalled and in some cases declined, with losses such as @SwordOfStZip. With the closure of Politics.ie and PoliticalIrish.com, we should have picked up a fair few weary members looking for a new home. Sadly, however, we haven’t really attracted any. Even @SwordOfStZip hasn’t returned, which in itself is strange. Declan, of course, has done great work with his YouTube channel, even advertising the site on there. Yet, despite thousands of views, very few people have actually come over to join in the discussion. I think for the site to expand, we need to broaden our appeal. We all need to play a greater part in being positive members, and even if we disagree, we should avoid childish insults and be the bigger person regardless of others’ political ideologies. Sarsfields does have a place—especially with the closure of other sites, including Boards.ie. The opportunity to attract new posters should be at an all-time high. I think as a community we need to come together, actively come up with ideas and suggestions, and all play our part. Along with that, we may also need some new rules and stronger moderation to put an end to thread derailment and constant personal abuse, if we truly have the site’s best interests at heart and cherish being part of this community. With that, I look forward to all of your input and hopefully we can, together, come up with some great ideas.
