Irish government expecting 22k asylum seekers this year

Integration Minister Roderic O'Gorman says his Department is projecting around 22,000 asylum seekers arriving in Ireland this year - a dramatic increase on the 13,000 that arrived last year.

What a fucking gobshite

Mr Clarke / Mr Connolly / Mr Collins, would " Deal " with this Traitor Scum ! ! !

Just a wee thought occurs to me. The government is pushing the two major refurbishment grants, one of 50K and the other of 70K, which all sounds grand and dandy, but there is a catch -

When you complete the build, you will have to sign a charge document, giving the local authority rights over your property as security for the grant

In other words the government will, to a certain extent, be taking ownership of your property. Something to bear in mind if they come looking for places to accommodate our new found friends from God knows where.

In fairness it makes sense,

The charge document gives the local authority rights over the property as security for the grant. This is to ensure that you meet the requirements of living in the property or renting it out for at least 5 years. The charge placed on your property lasts for 10 years and is the same as the grant amount you received.

It simply prevents making a quick profit for people turning over derelict properties as a business. Ensures that someone must be living in the property for 10 years.

The Issue I have, is who the hell could fix up a derelict property for 70k?

The reason why they do is is indeed sensible enough, it's just that as a byproduct of this approach the government has a degree of ownership of the property.

True enough but I think it only has ownership to the value of the grant and for ten years.

I would be interested to know how this Grant operates alongside a Mortgage, hence any mortgage company surely would take issue with part ownership including local authorities.

Good point.

Is it not 600 a week or about 32000 a year
