Do you think this is deliberate? It wasn't in the program for government. Has anyone seriously asked them? We'll see then if they deflect or respond. What would be the characteristics of such a policy of neo-colonialism? Let's see if matches their behaviour. It's a very serious claim which deserves a very serious treatment. There could be another reason for runaway immigration - it suits the short term interests of the conglomeration of groups that developed over the past 30 years. They all make a buck from it and it has, by now, amassed such an institutional size that no individual thinks that it is possible or desirable to reduce it. There are other examples of this which I think is called the engineer's curse. The Soviet Union was very fond of embarking on enormous projects - take the Virgin Lands Campaign by Khrushchev. The operational capacity of the scheme increased to such a size (the formation of manpower, machinery, supplies, political investment etc.) that new, ever more ambitious projects were undertaken to feed the machine rather than with a view to their viability. The destruction of the Aral sea was one result. It not only dried up an abundant ecosystem but also changed the weather from maritime to arid, hurled millions of tons of salt into the air which poisoned land for hundreds of kilometers around, devastated the local economies, reduced Soviet protein rations, and caused chronic health conditions for millions of people. The whole campaign was finally judged a serious misallocation of resources and hamstrung the USSR in the Cold War. It also led to the assumption to power of a moribund politburo. Another, recent example, is in China and the rise of ghost cities. Here, too, there are massive projects undertaken to occupy mobilised resources rather than to produce productive value. The Belt and Road initiative in Sri Lanka has examples of this as well. It could be that the migration issue could be an instance of this in the West. It is beyond the mental horizon of the average politician and they're just riding the wave. The steps necessary to mitigate it are not considered politically possible and measures to stop its evolution weren't taken when costs were feasible. The destruction of Libya didn't help so there are a lot of people spooked by the responsibility of their past mistakes who encouraged an institutional framework to conceal them. It's the same for those migrants that find themselves here. It's pointless to harangue the migrants themselves - what can they do about it? Wouldn't you parade around in a cashmere coat on the telly looking for sympathy if you were given the chance? What we can do is push the government into managing the problems that arise from this influx and to appoint competent people to lead the response. That would calm the public and better serve the migrants. The first action would be to put a pause on extra-continental undifferentiated migration for a couple of years until we get our heads around what the implication of large influxes of people has had on the country. We've had a number of school children and a staff member stabbed - drastic action has to be taken. This incident was a very close call and a very serious one. It will only get worse if papered over.
