Starting approximately in late February this year, anti-Mass Migration protesters have tried to highlight and stop the construction of a huge 1,000 person migrant centre near Newhall House, Flood's Cross, Naas Co. Kildare (53.217245, -6.722889).
And I am proud to say, they are still there. For the last 82 days a 24 hour vigil has been maintained at the site, with the heavy lifting done by a few men but also with good support in the local community. This follows the pattern of similar at least partly successful protests around Ireland, beginning with Oughterard, Mullingar, Coolock, Newtown Mount Kennedy and this one at Naas.
Unfortunately the pattern is then that the Garda Riot Squad smashes the encampment and pushes through the migrants. In this case there was an injunction taken out against the protestors as well, who aren't always in sufficient numbers to completely block the entrance anyway, but nonetheless the company involved say they cannot complete the work in time because of these protests.
I leave you with an image of Ronan, one of the key protestors, and also an interview with some other members (Lilyanne, Maria, and Linda respectively) of this pretty heroic stand.
