Biden did make an appearance recently. His death would explain how Harris got the nomination (as she would be president now), but I think it's a bit of a stretch. It would take some gall to put a double out for Biden in a press conference. That said, I was flicking through MSNBC, and Michael Steele responded to Alicia Menendez's complaint that Harris wouldn't do any TV interviews by asserting that y'all gotta stop dat privilege thang, which sounded like a Stephen from Django line, so there's a lot of gall going around. It's settled down a bit over there now, and the VP is entrenched in the nomination. It was clear way back in the 2020 election that Biden was impaired so it was expected that there would be a change to the ticket in November as his health finally collapsed beyond even polite concealment. The thing is, and this is something that doesn't seem to be realised, that the Democrats are running a party list strategy again for this election. The basement strategy was exactly that - put a party man out front while government is run by a committee of super-delegates, be they donors or grandees. Far from a Democratic party, they're an oligarchical one, and the American people are being asked to confirm it. Stability in a time of insecurity is the argument. This is why the person of Trump is so central to their campaign, and not any specific policy platform. So a party list is what is being offered to the electorate - pick a faction not a representative. As the Republicans might say - it's Trump or the Blob and the Blob ain't been doing so great. The civil war narrative is not about manic good ole boys as per Mississippi Burning , but about the displacement of the Blob by a populist and the unwillingness to surrender power without a fight. It's a threat not a warning. Keiser was on Jones recently and looked properly spooked (something about the Yen carry trade and the attempt on Trump seems to have gotten to him). He always had a tendency to theatricate but this time it looked like it got real to him. There's a very antebellum feeling to the air lately.
