Ukrainian MPs pave way for ban on largest Christian church

New legislation could provide for the outright prohibition of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church if it fails to cut ties with Moscow

The Ukrainian parliament has approved a law that would allow authorities to ban the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), which Kiev has repeatedly accused of having ties to Russia, according to an MP. The legislation also outright bans the Russian Orthodox Church and all affiliated religious institutions.
In a series of Telegram posts on Tuesday, lawmaker Yaroslav Zheleznyak said the parliament had passed a law banning certain religious organizations on the territory of Ukraine, particularly those linked to Russia.

“Among the people, it [is called] the law banning the Moscow Church,” he said. The law was approved by 265 deputies, with 29 voting against, and four abstaining.

The law, which will take effect in 30 days, bans the activities of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) and all affiliated religious organizations. However, it contains a caveat that gives the UOC nine months to sever all ties with the ROC.
Zelensky can’t force God to fight – Russian church
While the UOC declared full autonomy from the Moscow Patriarchate several weeks after the Ukraine conflict broke out in 2022, Kiev continued to accuse its clergy of having ties to Russia, often raiding churches and making arrests.
Parliament Speaker Ruslan Stephanchuk acknowledged last week that the law would certainly result in “the Russian church in Ukraine” being banned, presumably referring to the UOC. Around the same time, Vladimir Zelensky appeared to refer to the imminent move, which he said would “reinforce Ukraine’s spiritual independence.”

Last week, the initiative was endorsed by the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (AUCCRO), which represents all denominations in the country. It claimed that Russia remains the main “threat” to religious freedom in Ukraine. The Russian Orthodox Church, however, has dismissed AUCCRO’s decision as illegitimate, noting that UOC delegates had not been invited to take part in the meeting to discuss the matter.

Ukraine has long experienced religious tensions, with a number of entities claiming to be the true Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The two main rival factions are the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the Kiev-backed Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), which is considered by the Russian Orthodox Church to be schismatic.

The UOC remains the largest Orthodox church in Ukraine, with more than 8,000 parishes across the country. However, some of these parishes are choosing to transfer to the jurisdiction of the OCU under pressure from authorities in Kiev.

@Declan @SwordOfStZip

The reason I post full articles is people without a VPN cannot access the links because of EU censorship of RT (Russia Today)
The only way most posters here can read these links is if I paste the full article on the site.

The whining pedo is now spamming the site with his monkey see, monkey do shite.......... again.
Is there a more pathetic attention seeking idiot posting on any board on the internet?

Glide bomb wipes out Ukrainian brigade leaders – MOD (VIDEO)

The night strike targeted a site in Sumy Region, which is essential for Kiev’s logistics in its ongoing incursion into Russia

A Russian airstrike has destroyed a Ukrainian command post in Sumy Region, the Defense Ministry in Moscow has claimed, releasing footage of the overnight attack.
The strike took place early on Tuesday morning, the Russian military said. A supersonic Su-34 multipurpose jet deployed glide bombs against the target, which the ministry identified as operated by the 47th Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian ground forces.
The aerial footage shows a dark cityscape with a road junction, which RT understands is located in the middle of the city of Glukhov, some 15km from the Russian border. A massive explosion erupts from one of the buildings, which is marked as a car repair shop on Google Maps. A secondary explosion soon follows.
The Russian military claimed the site was used by the 47th Mechanized Brigade as a command post and munitions depot. Ukrainian military personnel, including officers in leadership positions, were killed in the strike, the report said.

The ministry did not estimate the number of Ukrainian casualties, but unverified reports by military-focused online news media claim as many as 90 troops were killed, including 30 higher up the chain of command than regular soldiers.

Sumy Region borders Russia’s Kursk Region, where Kiev is currently trying to seize territory in an offensive operation launched two weeks ago. One of the goals of the incursion, as stated by Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, is to establish a “buffer zone” to prevent Russian cross-border attacks. Moscow considers the incursion terrorist in nature, claiming that Kiev has been deliberately targeting civilians.

The Russian military estimated Ukrainian losses in the offensive at up to 3,800 as of Monday. The push has also cost Kiev hundreds of tanks and other pieces of heavy weaponry, many of which were provided by Western donors, according to the Russian military.

Chernobyl 2.0? Will Ukraine cause a new nuclear disaster?

The Zelensky regime is running incalculable risks by weaponizing a nuclear power station in its information war, and its Western backers won’t even call it out
Tarik Cyril Amar
By Tarik Cyril Amar, a historian from Germany working at Koç University, Istanbul, on Russia, Ukraine, and Eastern Europe, the history of World War II, the cultural Cold War, and the politics of memory
@tarikcyrilamartarikcyrilamar.substack.comtarikcyrilamar.com

Recently, Zaporozhe nuclear power station has been back in the news. It is the biggest such installation in Europe and one of the ten largest in the world. But that is not the reason for its current prominence. That, instead, stems from the fact that it is inside a war zone and at risk of a serious accident. Or, to be precise, an incident. For if something is finally going to go terribly wrong at Zaporozhe, it is virtually certain that it will not be an accident but the result of a deliberate policy. And to be even more precise, of Ukrainian policy.

The essence of the power plant’s dangerous situation is not hard to sketch. Built in the 1980s under the Soviet Union, when Russia and Ukraine both belonged to it, the Zaporozhe nuclear power station came under Russian control in March 2022. By fall of that year, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) started visiting the plant. Throughout, it has repeatedly been at the center of major – and well-founded – scares because military action has been getting far too close to it. While the plant is essentially shut down and not used to generate power, it needs constant maintenance. In particular, its six reactors require constant cooling. For that, they need to stay connected to the electrical grid. Moreover, the territory of the power station features various sources of potential nuclear contamination.
Now – and not for the first time – the IAEA, an organization that cultivates an emphatically low-key public communications style, has warned that “the nuclear safety situation” at Zaporozhe is “deteriorating.” Its director general, Rafael Grossi, has spoken of “an escalation,” and remains “extremely concerned,” while calling for maximum restraint from all sides.

The reason for Grossi’s urgent warning is that a drone has bombed a location “just outside of the plant’s protected area … close to the essential cooling water sprinkler ponds and about 100 meters” from the the only remaining substantial power line providing electricity to the plant. Remember: no power, no cooling.
According to the IAEA, its representatives at Zaporozhe have also “reported that military activity in the area – including very close to the plant – has been intense for the last week,” with “frequent explosions, repetitive heavy machine gun and rifle fire and artillery at various distances.”
In addition, the IAEA further reports, a significant fire at a cooling tower “earlier this week resulted in considerable damage, although there was no immediate threat to nuclear safety.” While “nuclear power plants are designed to be resilient against technical or human failures and external events including extreme ones,” they are not built, Grossi has stressed, “to withstand a direct military attack.”
Grossi and his staff have received some criticism for, in essence, being too diplomatic and not outspoken enough. But that is unfair. The IAEA’s ability to do its best – even if it may well not be enough – in a war zone is based on keeping a low profile. Its access to the Zaporozhe nuclear power station and any influence it may have depends on maintaining working relationships with all parties concerned. Think, if you will, of the IAEA as a sort of Red Cross but for nuclear reactors.
Yet that does not mean we have to be similarly reticent to set out a few basic facts:
Russia has not the slightest interest in provoking or risking a nuclear accident at a power station that it controls, is seen as being responsible for, and has legally assigned to its own Rosatom organization. Moreover, Moscow has made clear that it intends to keep the whole Zaporozhe Region, as well as other, adjacent territories. Whatever you think of that plan, that circumstance as well makes already hackneyed Ukrainian accusations about Russian schemes to stage an incident absurd

Ukraine, on the other hand, has a motive to, if not deliberately cause, then to at least risk an incident. Kiev would use it for information war purposes: to blame Moscow, frighten Ukraine’s own Western partners, and seek what the Zelensky regime always seeks, namely ever-deeper involvement of the West in a war that Ukraine is losing. In addition, Ukraine has politicians as well as military and intelligence officers who are entirely capable of hatching a scheme that would accept the fallout, literally, from such sabotage as long as it seems to offer strategic benefit.
Don’t think that’s possible? Recall what we in the West have just been permitted to learn and now even say about the Nord Stream attacks of September 2022, which also constituted a massive ecological catastrophe. Ukraine was heavily involved (although certainly not alone, as Western mainstream media now ask us to believe), its politicians, media, and Western “friends” brazenly lied about all of it, and, finally, they all blamed Russia, as absurd as that has always been.
See the parallels? Only that a nuclear incident would be much worse again, of course. It is not the IAEA’s job, but that of Ukraine’s Western sponsors in Washington and its clients to warn off Kiev. They will most likely fail to do so, but in a better world, this time the Zelensky regime would be told in advance to abandon its insane and selfish schemes. This needs to happen not behind closed doors but publicly, so that even Zelensky and company – all of them – get the memo. And it must come with credible threats, not against Moscow but Kiev. For no one can be allowed to play with nuclear fire.

Ukrainian Army on war-crime spree in Kursk – Chechen commander

Major General Apty Alaudinov has claimed to have seen footage showing numerous Russian civilians being executed at point-blank range

Ukrainian forces that have occupied part of Kursk Region have committed atrocities against civilians while using them as human shields, the commander of the Akhmat Special Forces from Russia's Chechen Republic has claimed.
In a post on Telegram on Monday, Apty Alaudinov recounted an episode in the border town of Sudzha, where he said Ukrainian troops had entered a residential house with children inside.
“In this building, they settled down on the ground floor… and chased children and teachers upstairs to use them as a shield,” he said, adding that this practice is widespread.
He claimed that first-person footage filmed by the Ukrainians had ended up in Russian hands, and showed the brutality of Kiev’s forces. Alaudinov said he had no words to describe Ukrainians other than “fascists and Satanists.”
“I received a huge number of photos in which I saw civilians who were simply shot at point-blank [range], in the head and from the back. All these civilians, unfortunately, died,” he said, expressing his condolences and vowing revenge.

Alaudinov expressed absolute confidence of a military victory. “The enemy has already broken his teeth. He has understood that he won’t pass in our sector,” he said, referring to the positions defended by Akhmat.
Moscow has accused Ukrainian forces of atrocities on Russian soil, claiming that Kiev is indiscriminately targeting civilians. According to official data, at least 17 people have been killed and more than 140 injured by Ukrainian forces in Kursk Region.
As fighting continues on the border, videos have surfaced on social media showing Ukrainian troops grabbing people off the street, blindfolding them, and pushing them into trucks.
Ukraine’s offensive in Kursk, the largest cross-border incursion into Russia so far in the conflict, began earlier this month with some initial gains. The Russian Defense Ministry has said that the advance has been halted and estimated Ukrainian losses at more than 4,100 troops.

Nazi heirs’ in EU nation ‘hate Russia on genetic level’ – Moscow

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has condemned Latvia over its decision to send 500 combat drones to Kiev

Latvia is fueling the Ukraine conflict by supplying Kiev with hundreds of drones, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said. The deliveries will nonetheless fail to change the ultimate outcome of the hostilities, she added.
Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds revealed last week that the Baltic nation had readied another shipment of 500 domestically-manufactured UAVs for Ukraine. The announcement came after the Latvian Defense Ministry said in early July that it would provide Kiev with as many as 2,500 combat UAVs worth a total €4 million ($4.4 million) within a month, as part of a Western drone coalition effort.
In an interview with RIA Novosti on Wednesday, Zakharova signaled there was nothing surprising about the delivery, given what she called the deep-rooted Russophobia of the Latvian elites. “The local political establishment consists almost entirely of ideological heirs of the [Nazi] Waffen SS, who hate Russia on a genetic level and are trying to settle historical scores with it,” the spokeswoman alleged.

The drone delivery only confirms Latvia’s increased involvement in the Ukraine conflict, Zakharova stated. “Riga is deliberately adding fuel to the fire and provoking the geographical expansion of hostilities and is openly gloating at the fact that Latvian weapons are being used by the regime of Vladimir Zelensky to kill civilians and shell Russian cities.”
However, Latvia’s “hostile” actions “are only capable of prolonging the agony of the Kiev regime and will not affect the results of the special military operation,” Zakharova said, adding that anyone involved in crimes against Russia would ultimately be punished.
Moscow has repeatedly voiced concerns about the resurgence of Nazi ideology in the Baltic states, as well as what it perceives as a crackdown on the rights of the Russian-speaking population in the region. Russia has also said that the “denazification” of Ukraine is one of the key objectives of its ongoing military campaign.
Ukraine has routinely used drones for long-range strikes on Russian cities, with many of the attacks targeting critical social and energy infrastructure as well as residential buildings. Moscow has consistently denounced Western arms shipments to Kiev, arguing that they make the West a direct participant in the hostilities.
As UAV warfare has emerged as one of the key dimensions of the Ukraine conflict, Latvia announced a plan in May to create “an army of drones,” signaling its intention to invest €20 million to this end in 2024 alone.

I have to say I'm surprised that Putin has allowed part of Russia to be invaded by Ukraine.

I would say this is a big part of his plans and he is up to something, but the truth is I do now wonder if Russia is weaker than we all thought.

Putin has often said there are Red Lines to not cross, yet those lines are crossed all the time, now he has allowed Russia to be invaded under his watch. Surely he would have responded with something by now, yet nothing.

He only has nukes left and I doubt he is mad enough to use them, yet.

He's the only rational player in this crisis.
His opposite is in late stages dementia .
The Ukrainians are pawns full stop. surrounded by neocon sociopaths.
Look at the instigators since 2014 and prior.
There's an extremely dangerous situation after developing.
And the apathy of Europe's people is genuinely frightening.

I fully agree however what he didn't expect (Putin) was taking on the West.

We are at war with Russia, no doubt about it, Ukraine is their puppet and we are arming them to the teeth.

I have no idea what is going to happen, but what I didn't expect was to see Russia invaded and the response from Puting lackluster, to say the least.

I would have expected a shock and awe type of response and yet he seems to have no reply to losing part of his own country.

Either Putin is literally hanging on with a thread, Russia has exhausted far more than we thought, or he has a plan and is yet to put it into action. Sadly, because so many red lines of his have already been crossed I believe Russia may well be exhausted and close to collapse.

You just have to read what Russian milbloggers have been saying for 2 years. On paper, Russia should have won this war, long ago. Everyone including both Western analysts and Russian planners, got it horribly wrong. And that has a cost. Western militaries have vastly overspent for decades to counter Russia. Russia is just fucked.

Girken was 100% correct. Thats why hes in jail.
I believe he would have won it, but now at great cost if the West were not involved.

I agree however that it does seem that the illusion of Russian power was greatly overthought and yes he has got it wrong and in the long run, he has shown how weak Russia is.

It's one thing to invade another country, it's another thing to have your own country invaded and offer zero reply.

We're going to wake up some morning soon.
And find lots of things won't work any longer.
We won't really know what or who did what.
And soon afterwards.
Our lives could be very difficult indeed.
That's where its headed.
There's a lot of very stupid people doing very stupid things for no advantage.
A a lot of people will wonder what caused it to happen.
It's going to be a bad morning to wake up.

And the West got seiously involved because Ukraine was able to win Hostomel, and Russia ran out of petrol putside Kyiv.

Thats been its own embarrassing episode in the West. Huge sums of money have been spent and for what? How many 100s of MLRS and HIMARS does the US have? How few did they need to give to Ukraine to paralyse Russian logistics?

And that goes for all other Western systems. They were never needed in such quantities.1000 F-35s have been produced so far. Why? Its massive overkill.

Putin could if he had mobilised again, but that could have triggered huge issues. Now theres very little left in their material stockpiles anyway.

I think the support of Ukraine has other motives, I doubt for one minute the West cares about the wellbeing of the average Ukrainians, and neither does Putin to be fair, no it's my belief the war is about something else. We will probably never really know we can only speculate.

Whilst I can only speculate, I believe the war is more about this than anything else,

Ukraine, home to approximately 500,000 tons of high-quality lithium and vast quantities of rare earth elements, was poised to be a key player in the global transition to green technology.

Well, battery research is trying to move beyond that even now.

For the US though, the reason is simple. A vastly weakened Russian military means they can turn attention fully to China. With Poland and others beefing up their militaries, the US can probably now preposition far more material closer to China and out of Europe.
Interesting you mention China!

The memo, provided first to Military.com and shared publicly Tuesday, was titled "Refocusing Family Readiness." Amid the Air Force's latest shift to reorganize the force for great power competition -- the service's term for increased spending and strategy against adversaries such as Russia and, most notably, China -- it offered an inward look at how it plans to support airmen and families during the sweeping changes.

"While our efforts to prepare the force for future challenges are essential, they will be incomplete without a parallel focus on family readiness," Allvin wrote. "In order to meet the moment in this time of consequence, we need to ensure that families and communities connected to the Air Force are as well prepared as our service members for the possible challenges that lay ahead."

Yeah its China thats the main threat to the US.

Now I think the Chinese military is shit and prone to the same problems as Russia, but they are building a Navy pretty fast. They could cause some serious problems to the US when it kicks off.
Yes, that and their man power, also their people are well drilled, unlike the US whose strength has led t o a lot of weakness.

West risking WWIII – Italian deputy PM

Matteo Salvini has said that giving Ukraine weapons to strike targets on Russian soil could lead to a global war

Ukraine’s Western backers could trigger World War III by providing Kiev with weapons that can be used to strike targets on Russian soil, Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini has said.
Russian officials have claimed that the Ukrainian military has been using Western-supplied weapons in their incursion in Kursk Region. Several Western media outlets have published articles with similar claims of late. A number of Kiev’s backers have also publicly given the green light to use the weapons they have provided on Russian soil.
Speaking to Il Sussidiario media outlet on Wednesday, Salvini, who is also the minister of infrastructure and transport and leads the Lega Nord (Northern League) party, said the “sending of weapons to strike and kill also on Russian territory would be a disaster, the antechamber of a dramatic world conflict.”
The deputy prime minister added that his right-wing party has nothing against providing “humanitarian and military aid to give Ukraine the possibility to defend itself.”

Ahead of the European Parliament elections in June, Salvini urged Italians to not let left-wing parties win, as they, together with French President Emmanuel Macron, would make the prospect of a third world war dangerously real.
“I strongly ask for a vote against the war, to isolate dangerous bombers like Macron,” he said at the time. Salvini also praised the Italian government for its firm position against those in Europe who speak about potentially deploying Western troops to Ukraine, having previously criticized the French president for refusing to rule this out.
The deputy prime minister also stated in June that “we will no longer approve sending any type of weapon unless we have the certainty that those weapons will not be used to attack and kill inside Russia.”
“It would be the incident that takes us straight towards the Third World War,”
he said at the time.
In late May, Defense Minister Guido Crosetto cited the Italian constitution, stressing that the weapons Italy supplies to Ukraine can only be used within the territory of the country.
Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani echoed this, telling reporters: “we are not fighting against Russia. We are defending Ukraine, [it] is not the same.”
Around the same time, Salvini described NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg as a “dangerous gentleman” after he proposed allowing Kiev to strike targets deep inside Russia with Western weapons.
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, too, expressed incredulity as to “why Stoltenberg said such a thing

EU nation restricts free housing for Ukrainians

Refugees who came from areas seen as unaffected by the conflict with Russia will now have to pay for accommodation in Hungary

Hungary has tightened restrictions for Ukrainian refugees seeking free housing. Those coming from areas of Ukraine the Hungarian government deems unaffected by the conflict are no longer entitled to free accommodation under new rules that took effect on Wednesday.
Similarly to other EU nations, Hungary has offered shelter and government subsidies to Ukrainians who have fled to the West during the conflict with Russia. However, there has been growing public discontent in a number of nations about refugees perceived as freeloaders who don’t actually need support.
The list of Ukrainian regions that the Hungarian government considers directly affected by the conflict will be updated on a monthly basis. It currently encompasses the entire country except the regions of Western Ukraine.
Starting this week, those arriving from parts of Ukraine seen as unaffected will be offered accommodation paid for by the government only temporarily. Exemptions are in place for vulnerable individuals, including pregnant women, minors and one legal guardian, people with disabilities, and the elderly.

The Hungarian Helsinki Committee, a pro-refugee NGO funded by the George Soros-founded Open Society Foundations and similar organizations, has decried the new rules as “draconian.” It claims that hundreds of people may end up in the streets because of them, including ethnic Hungarians with dual citizenship.
Ukraine has a sizable Hungarian minority living in the west of the country. Before the conflict, Budapest accused the Ukrainian government of violating their rights through discriminatory laws that imposed Ukrainian culture by restricting the use of other languages in schools and in the media. Kiev, meanwhile, has complained about what it perceived as creeping encroachment on its sovereignty via Hungarian dual citizenship.
Earlier this year, Ukraine carried out a military service reform meant to bolster conscription rates. As part of the campaign, it asked EU nations to help it repatriate eligible men by applying pressure on refugees.

I think the Russians are genuinely alarmed each time the Neocons push them further. They realise they’re dealing with lunatics and so are being very careful not to do anything that could lead to all out conflict.

As JPC said, they’re the sane ones. The Neocons are losing everywhere and are thus extremely dangerous!

Let them alone until it's finished.
Then they should return.
To what country though!
They have had a shitty run since 1991.
The most industrialised resources rich part of Russia turned into a failed state and the Russians had little to do with it.
Follow the money!
