For approximately two years now, the local community in Saggart Co. Dublin have been desperate to highlight their plight at the receiving end of one of the largest plantation centres in Ireland, the IPAS centre at the Citywest Hotel. For example they have pioneered and used to good effect, the slow protest on the M50, to try to get their message out.

These ongoing protests have exploded in the last week because of the revelation that a 10 year old girl was found raped on the grounds of this IPAS, allegedly, it is said locally, by an immigrant working as security there. Its not known at all what the girl was doing there, she was under the 'care' of Tusla in Co. Meath but left them while on a trip to Dublin city centre, then she went to visit her aunt in Tallaght and her movements have become unclear after that.

But this is in fact only further confirmation for many locals, that the IPAS centre is used for child or adult prostitution and trafficking. For example one local lady, travelling home one night on the Luas got talking to two young Irish traveller girls of about 13-15. After some discussion two adult Algerians emerged as their 'boyfriends' and it turns out they live there in the IPAS centre as couples. When she complained to the authorities about this, using the various helplines, none returned her calls except one whom she identified as a Garda who went onto ask, or words to this effect:
"Why as an Irish person would you want to report this?"
In otherwords they don't intend doing anything to help.

In any case the security apparatus here have been out in force over these last few nights to protect the IPAS centre from the ire of these locals, including vast numbers of Gardaí, the Public Order Unit, and Garda Helicopter etc. The media have of course been presenting this as various categories of thugs terrorising the poor unfortunate immigrants but the locals (actually there are no 'thugs') have a different take on that. It turns out that a few nights ago many Ukrainian ladies staying at the IPAS centre came out to support them, because they are terrorised by these North Africans as well. However when management got to hear that, they were promptly threatened with losing their accommodation if they didn't stay quiet.

Hopefully anyway if any of you get a chance you might like to call down any evening to help out. Many thanks to all there and especially Aisling from Saggart whom you can hear here:

Just to back up a point noted above, the group representing Ukrainians in Ireland has, apparently, long protested about the conditions at Citywest saying the women there are under constant harassment from the Africans and don't feel safe, but they are ignored.

Amazing how all that concern for the the poor Ukrainians has dropped right down the list of political priorities.

What has sickened me most is that all we hear is the condemnation of the 'far right thugs', not one word of sympathy or concern from politicians about the the poor child in all of this!

I like to think though that this one will blow up in the faces of the establishment.
They are using the protests to cover up the incident in the exact same manner as they did with Parnell Square stabbings. Instant court cases with photos, names, addresses reported everywhere. Unlike the original culprit
