The SSPX are going to consecrate new bishops

As an agnostic I am not overly concerned about the mechanics of the RCC but what is quite apparenent is that it has somehow been hijacked by the globalist movement and I would fully support any effort to diminish its relevance and create an alternative. So more power to the radicals elbow!

Patti Smith
Jeez, that's some evil looking bitch!
I saw the photo before I saw that name and I thought she looked Jewish, and it turns out she actually is!

In the penultimate chapter of Bread of Angels, she describes the shock of learning, at age 70, that her biological father was not Grant Smith, but another World War II veteran, “a handsome gunner from the 766th Bombardment Squadron” whom Smith speculates her mother may have met at a nightclub while Grant was out of town. The gunner’s heritage was 100 percent Ashkenazi Jewish. As a girl, Smith had fantasized about being from a tribe of nomadic aliens or Native Americans. Now she found that she was descended quite literally from a wandering people.

Gods as a bid to explain the deeper mysteries of the universe are countless in number and yet they all depend on faith rather than rational explanation, so no, as physical or spiritual entities I feel that they are constructs rather than actual things.
I won't interrupt this thread too much (I might upset some people :)) but if you don't believe in any God(s) then you're an atheist.

But I am open to definitive proof that there is a grand plan with a single entity sitting at the head of it, therefore I am undecided. I also have no objection to people believing in such constructs and will respect their faith.

You're undecided about whether you believe in any Gods? Are you sure about that?

I do too. More so Christianity.

No disrespect intended to agnostics, but if I was agnostic about say a huge bomb been created just by smashing the smallest element, the atom, at least I would have to boast I read some books on physics, or whatever, as an adult before I could be dismissive of all physicists say?

I mean to say I have a friend agnostic, and when I asked him would he like to read a book on the Proofs of Gods existence, he said no, he doesn't read such books because he is agnostic!

Anyways Catholics believe, following the great Greek philosophers in this, that the existence of God can be proven, that it is not a matter of faith. Other elements in Catholicism are matters of faith, but not the existence of God Himself. Anyway here is a book on all this if you are interested: http://www.orwellianireland.com/proofs.pdf

There is no such book.

You're a gnostic theist. It's much more common for atheists to be agnostic.

It's not a matter of fact.

Other elements in Catholicism are matters of faith, but not the existence of God Himself.
It is.

Anyway here is a book on all this if you are interested: http://www.orwellianireland.com/proofs.pdf

But what exactly is God?

Assuming there is one then why should he/it only take the form of the Christian interpretation of his/its existence?

The practice of Christianity was a large part of my upbringing even though my father was a rock solid athiest. I at least allow the possibility, but should I really need to study lengthy and involved tracts and tomes to be convinced?

Respected physicists, engineers and mathematicians have been trained to base their views on empirical evidence, evidence that can be measured and scaled. Using that evidence they have gone on to create incredible structures and devices. Has a pope, bishop or priest even so much as built a simple bridge or cooked a fish using their knowledge of matters spiritual?

Even the "World's most famous atheist", Richard Dawkins, allows for the possibility.

You're an atheist, unless you believe in God(s).

An agnostic considers it impossible to know whether there is a god(s) or not, while an athiest simply does not believe in any God(s).

I lean more towards the former than the latter.

What do you mean "lean"?

I ask you a simple question: Do you believe in any God(s), yes or no?

Yes theology is like physists having to study proofs etc, its quite complicated.

Never the twain shall meet.

Purely subjective of course but you are free to think that, meanwhile, I have a life outside of the internet.
Thanks for another one of your trademark replies when you find yourself embroiled in your own intellectual cowardice.

I'll leave it there.

No you shouldn't. The evidence of your own eyes and ears should suffice.

Bocht has used that argument before but its a silly one.

Yeah that's right. Despite people's own lived experience in their own bodies every day they must read volumes of tract to form their view of the World...

Tell me. How many of the devout down the ages including Saintly ones had to read these huge manuscriptss to come to know God?

The purpose of religion and priests is help people explore their spirituality, not to build bridges or cook fish. Has a physicist, engineer or mathematician even so much as written a prayer that provided comfort during a time of grief using their knowledge?

The purpose of science and empirical data is to only explain natural phenomena in physical reality, not to prove or disprove spiritual matters. People experience alternate states of reality and have spiritual experiences which science cannot, and is not intended to, explain. Its failure to explain or confirm spiritual and supernatural matters does not disprove their existence. The argument that science can't prove God or spirituality is basically non sequitur, because that is not the purpose of science.

Indeed, but by helping people to explore their spirituality religions will often enforce structures by which that exploration should be conducted, and that is where the problems start, Islam V. Christianity is particuarly pertinent presently.

This is why I am somewhat sceptical as it is usually the case that an all powerful god is placed at the top of this structure and it is only the priests that are allowed to interpret his word, having read vast tomes instructing them how to do so.This pattern is echoed in the climate change scam although it's professed scientists rather than priests who are doing the preaching.

I am not asking science to prove the existence, or otherwise of a god. What real science (as opposed to the sponsored research by vested interests) is doing is reinforcing the notion that we really know very little about how the universe works, are parallel universes a thing for instance? We don't know, and every discovery raises more questions.

It's also worth noting that much amateur science was done by the clergy in the 19th century and Darwin himself was a devout fellow who delayed publication of his conclusions due to them countering christian teaching. Add to that a well known quote from an Oxord professor -

Plastics are made by fools like me
But only God can make a tree

And the contention that scientists are bereft of any spiritual feelings becomes redundant.
