Yes tragically academic fraud is becoming more and more common. The notion of academia that we have now or had yesterday at least grew out of Nordic-Latin Christendom (just look into the origins of Oxford and Harvard) and with the death of that it is hardly surprising when you think about it that academia as we knew it dies to though it appears that something very similar will survive in Russia, Iran and China.

Arday at least showed some shame unlike some other people-

Neither did I, but the article says he's just a random civilian who in fairness did some worthy deeds during Pearl Harbour and probably deserved his Navy Cross - he was the first black man to achieve this, so that's their angle for naming the ship after him. But if they wanted to name it after a black man for DEI reasons, they surely could've found a more worthy black man and one who actually won a Medal of Honor or was a President, for example Barrack Obama who has no naval ships named after him.

Destroyers are often named after Medal of Honor recipients, but aircraft carriers are usually named after presidents.
