Clonmel anti-mass migration protest site, 25 May 2024

The protest site is on land owned by the HSE, opposite to the entrance of the Ard Aoibhinn estate, on the Heywood Road, to the north of the town near the halting site and rugby club, 52.366614, -7.718065.

Approximately from the early part of this year rumours have been circulating about the government developing land in Clonmel for modular homes accommodating large numbers of migrants. Of course this whole push by the government is using emergency legislation, hence no planning permission, on the grounds of the emergency caused in Ireland by the Ukraine war, literally the other side of Europe, while in actual fact hardly any migrants in these centres are from Ukraine.

Hard information on this centre was hard to come by though because the government kept secret most of the details away from people like local TD Mattie McGrath, one of the very few Oireachtas members sceptical of this migrant policy.

However plans were firmed up in the last two weeks or so but the construction workers who went onto the site have been challenged by locals who have also created a 24 hour protest encampment. This has been created by local people but assisted by what are now veterans of this new struggle, from Naas and Arklow. Fortunately the protesters have had some luck in pausing some of this construction, including the planned destruction of a magnificent 200 year old tree and causing some of the workers to change their employment.

It's not just the money, it's the material & human resources, time, effort, exposure, space development priority.

National development for the Irish has been shut down, sold off and given away to facilitate country wide Plantations.

I only suggested plantation for Dalkey Hill, Killiney Hill & Leopardstown Racecourse because they have the spare space and their owners are (historically) happy to have Plantation while their wealthy friends make money from the transportation.

Sure, I did say that the there needed to be modular housing provided in new locations as a means to spare existing close knit Irish Communities from being invaded by unsuitable lurking loitering strangers with their unsuitable ways & cultures.

Anyway, here we are. meanwhile I'd say the government needs to do more to reassure affected communities, to build with and for them too.

So in a few short hours they have smashed through the hedgerows and created a vast new road and entrance way to the site. The idea behind that is that this very wide area will now be very hard to picket, you would need a big line of people to stop a truck or a bus getting through that:

He forgot the RTE media brit controller and .ie brit web police for Ireland to clamp down on irish dissent (similar to this) for Plantation . . . And all the FFGN poli'ers and voters who earn from and support the nEU ireland.

Clonmel has a busy bypass/ring road running north of it. Disrupt the traffic on that and the place, including the site, will very soon grind to a halt.

Or stop the traffic on the actual road you see there, as opposed to that new ginormous road which they have created off it, which is not very wide at all. But do that and the gardai will be on your case big time...

None of the 3 Indps have said anything about migration/refugees as far as I can tell.

So just to summarise for this thread: On Tuesday 11 June 2024 the Gardai escorted a huge number of security guards - mostly from England it seems -, workmen and machinery onto the site. On that day they created a huge new entrance, at least partly by destroying an ancient hedgerow and stone wall, and surrounded it with high security fencing. In the field they are developing they have now also created a corridor to work in, again with all sides surrounded by high security fencing. They also obliterated, I think completely, the protest encampment.

However, looking at this video from about 25 minutes in, its clear the protestors are now hard at work creating a new camp, so Le Cunamh Dé this fight is not over yet:

Well its great to see some locals giving them some trouble anyway! (Thats quite a common thing at protests now, the Gardai ask your name, when they don't really need it, and if you don't reply they jail you for two weeks on the spot.) The other issue that has arisen is that this land has been the traditional grazing land for the horses from the halting site for some 30 or 40 years or so. Now the Gardai have told them to take away the horses and the National travellers organisation is calling a meeting on the subject.

Depends how much backing they get from the national organisation maybe. If they do a meeting and a polite request I would say no, if they could mobilise travellers onto the site now in solidarity then that might be different.

It's disheartening to see so few people fighting back in Clonmel.

But when you see their election results, they kind of deserve it, to be honest, 61% voted for the establishment.

Perhaps this will be the turning point, flooding FG and FF heartlands with third-world refugees might wake them up.

Exactly, it will take a good few of their women to be raped beaten up and children even abducted. A few of their sons to be knifed would also be a wake-up call. It has happened in every country that welcomes these invaders. Sadly it will have to get a lot worse before it gets better.

These are the two contrasting sites on the Heywood Road in Clonmel, above is the protest camp on the 25th May 2024, and now no trace of it remains. Meanwhile just below this the government are building a new town effectively, entirely without any kind of planning permission or local consultation.

Further bad news is hitting people in Clonmel. There are reports that almost a whole street in the centre of the town, currently boarded up mostly after the recession, has been taken over to create a huge new IPAS migrant centre, and thats alongwith the former Franciscan Friary likely to end up the same in the town.
