It's close to what Orwell said: "They may be illusions, but they are very powerful illusions".  To go back to Baudrillard, even he, a hyper-postmodernist eventually takes a punt on all this and says the only way out of Disneyland is to return to the primitive, the mystical and spiritual. So in essence I'm agreeing with your diagnosis, but this does not change the fact that Christianity is simply one moral system, theology and cosmology out of many, and is no more or less valid than any other.
