The UK did not have recruitment during World War II in the North- actually Loyalist conspiracy theories about the Battle of Somme meant that a lot of Prods, especially the most savage, did not want to go away again and that is why it was not brought in. Compared to the rest of Europe World War II did not make much of an impact on the Irish collective psyches.</blockquote>
