Message: <blockquote data-quote="AUL LAD" data-source="post: 127136" data-attributes="member: 406">What do you do.i have a shed full of daft stuff i bought at auction and if you go to closed unsold s of some of the auctioneers they will take a bid on what has not sold . i buy simple but purely industrial high end equipment sometimes for very little  and it has a box with an on off switch and a motor  be it drill or vacuum cleaner - if you stick to stuff a handyman could fix you wont go wrong . for example -- by trolling all the auction houses -i bought 4 PET AIR compressors for making plastic bottles 400 bar each a typical compressor is 10 bar -- they were 72 euros each and one of them is new  with a retail of 20,000 approx - they were sold by a lazy yank auction house who held their auction in America  at 0900 EST   and relied on a single picture of a plastic shroud for a fan belt and a motor --they were listed as 4 x25hp motors used , they were in a American co in clonmel who used this auction house for their worldwide equipment sales  and the lazy yank was used to dealing in millions and took his eye off the ball i am sure i was the only bidder and i have learned if the item is badly photographed and described the person selling does not know is it worth a 50 euro or less and you start at the BOTTOM and see do you get a reaction  .the English auction houses have a high start bid and  they know roughly what it is worth so your only hope is the closed unsold sif you take an interest in for example Irish  silver Georgian teapots and quickly become an expert --i meet them in fonsie mealys auctions and they have customers in America and Canada who are collectors and put their money into items which go up in value -- these lads are well off from trading small  items to people with oodles of cash and are time poor -- education and a head for figuring out the market is all you need --most markets are the same . you assess the rarity of the item -the current value here and the value elsewhere and the cost of sending it elsewhere and if there is a margin then you have a little business'many women make clothes and jewellery for online . if a person specialized in making clothes bespoke for disabled or badly injured people --you have a market almost to yourself .i know one man who reconditions a very complex Volvo gearbox and makes a very good living in a small shed at the back of his house  -volvos price is a whopping 26,000 so he has room for his margin from that.if you come across a real demand for something and your knowledge tell you i could do that for a lot less without making a bodge of it  then go for it . i have mobile bluetooth speakers which are not dear and i play lectures while i work in the garage and while i drive and i sometimes have to hear the lecture 3 times to get a good grasp of what they are saying as i am so short of time i cannot stop and just listen . when you retire you get very busy as with a list of things to do which you could not do while working  you quickly run out of time . i now take a midday break and sleep for 20 minutes and sometimes shower and you start a new day mentally and physically and the training you give your mind now is fuck them all i am going to lead a stress free life from here on out and you do that. if you are tired simply sleep- the difference it has made to me to realize i will not and do not have to lead a stressful life is amazing .life starts at 66-- no more bundles of letters from the tax man or some government NGO and we have thousands of them who suddenly TELL/DEMAND you hire accountants to complete their surveys or other -- i eventually turned on them and said you are affecting my health i am about to retire -- they run when you make public their bullshit as their golden rule is collect the money from the government and be invisible while doing it .look forward to your retirement and there  are thousands of businesses who have to employ mad drug taking thieving cunts and they would be very glad to meet a sane person even for 2 days a week.</blockquote>
