This means that cheap Russian gas was going to come to an end anyway and the Ukraine war has simply given a face saving excuse to scramble around for an alternative, rather than Western governments having to admit they bet the house on one short term supplier. Russia does have more gas, but further to the east from where it is easier to supply China et al.</blockquote>
