I thought we had a thread on this before but couldn't find it.

Anyway, while looking at options for a new commercial/family vehicle recently I came across this.

A new Toyota Landcruiser, the 5 seat version, in the ROI is retailing at a starting price of €140,830. An incredible price I'm sure you'll agree.

Now, go 50 miles up the road to NI and the exact same vehicle (probably better spec) is retailing at £74,995 (€89,480 or thereabouts)

That's over €51,000 in the difference between north and south.

Even the fully commercial model here now has jumped €14,000 from the previous model to the new one and is now retailing at a starting price of just shy of €70k.

Interestingly, the road tax on the private version is over €2,500 a year whereas the commercial version is €333. Exact same engine, exact same vehicle just with 2 seats instead of 5. Fucking madness.

How fucked up is this country?

Before Xmas I went to book a flight to the UK with Ryanair, it's website would not accept payment saying the there was a problem with the system which they were urgently trying to fix so download the app which just happens to be working. Same again next day, so I managed somehow to get through to a real live person at the help desk who under some light interrogation admitted, in so many words, that yes, the company was trying to force the app on to everyone's phone.

Needless to say I told them politely to go stick the app and I won't be taking the trip.
