Isn't it shocking that those decent, salt of the earth people were abandoned by the politicians, Gardaí, DCC and left to try and survive in a street that has been reduced to a dumping ground for the dregs of the world.

I see it myself. I walk down that street a few times a week, and every week, without fail, there are gangs of foreigners - generally Roma - loitering in different parts, blocking the streets, throwing food on the ground, hassling security in the ilac centre. Now, most Irish people keep the head down but I barge through the fuckers and let them know what I think of them.

But it's the old dears I feel sorry for. They remember that street as a real Dublin street. Brendan Behan used to hang around there, buy salmon from the fishmonger and chat with the traders.

Now the character is gone, replaced by an alien infestation. No wonder so many people Irish people refuse to even go near the place.
