Indeed. I have long noticed that the modern materialist is not aligned with the Platonic ideal of searching for the good, the true and the beautiful. This alone tells us about the spiritual aspect of these alignments and positions. The atheist, by nature, is in open defiance of such notions.

The materialist has, by default had to drop any notions related to objective truth, and so the good and the beautiful fall away not long after. Hence the cynicism and belittlement that flows from the materialist worldview . Its all they have left
