Enoch Burke may be considered one of the first political prisoners of our time, but now Michelle Keane has joined him, jailed for contempt of court in what appears to be another troubling example of political imprisonment.

The Hate Speech legislation, though paused, has not disappeared—it remains in the background, likely awaiting a new government to bring it forward.

The imprisonment of individuals like Michelle Keane and Enoch Burke could mark the beginning of a broader trend. There is growing concern that, in time, the focus might shift from incarcerating serious offenders to targeting individuals for expressing controversial opinions, even on platforms like Twitter.
Unsuccessful County Kerry election candidate Michelle Keane has been jailed for contempt of court.

The local and general election candidate was jailed after a hearing of Listowel Circuit Court where it was argued that she is in breach of an interlocutory injunction, Radio Kerry reports.

The injunction refers to social media posts made by Keane where allegations were made about local Garda Sergeant Melanie Walsh.

In accordance with the interlocutory injunction Keane had been ordered to remove any material from social media that made claims against Sergeant Walsh.

It also ordered Keane and any third party operation in consort with her to refrain from making statements about the sergeant with Walsh’s representatives arguing that Keane had breached the order most recently by way of a Facebook post dated to the 28th of November last.

The post in question did not mention Walsh by name, however it was argued that she was identifiable through its contents.

It was reported that Keane was given an opportunity to agree to an undertaking in respect of the material but refused saying that she believed she had not breached the interlocutory injunction.

She was conveyed to Limerick Prison for contempt of court and is due to appear before Listowel Circuit Court again on Friday.

Keane has the option of purging her contempt at any time.

She's an idiot. She has barely a brain in her head.

Now that in itself is no reason to imprison anyone. But you cannot just allow idiots carte blanche.

For example, you might have some idiot who believes that the only law that applies to him is some outdated law from history and he walks into a shop and steals, and claims in court that the law does not apply to him etc.

It is a similar case here. She was jailed for contempt of court. She claims she did not understand the order of the court or what was wrong with her actions.

Now unfortunately society breaks down if you just excuse her because she's an idiot.

I suppose it is similar for the idiot conspiracies she promotes, 5g and so on. Noting that is another parallel albeit related issue, regarding how conspiracies destroy a rational society etc.

Emphasising again that that is not what she was jailed for. (But perhaps we should have a serious debate around it. Of course you chaps would not come out well, I know what side you take already and why.)

Stealing is a crime, that is well known and accepted.

Hurty words however are something new, it goes against our freedom of expression rights enshrined in the Constitution.

You need only look at the basket case that is the UK to see how there now appears to be a two-tier justice system based on your ethnicity.

You'll notice that he said being an idiot is not in itself a reason to imprison anyone..

I think he was covering his own ass 😆

Even before you get into the question of her stupidity, likely racism, incitement, conspiracies, etc, and even channeling Trump's "vote rigging" shit on social media.

Publishing or sharing a recorded call requires two-party consent.

That's the law. She didn't adhere to the law.

Well it is also pertinent to discussing her case on this thread that as well as being an idiot she is mad as a box of frogs.

E.g. Before she got into Irish paytriotism she dabbled in "spiritualism", said she had visions of St. Patrick, and was trying to make money off that.

The "attention" economy. Your "movement" sure picks 'em.

She is perfectly entitled to claim vote rigging and investigate that, I am not aware of any racism or incitement from her so that is nothing more than a slur unless you have further information.

Also in regards to sharing a telephone conversation? I am unaware of what this suggestion could be however if she shared a conversation I presume she was attempting to whistleblow something, hence the law does allow this.

Single party consent

The current definition of ‘interception’ infers that only single party consent is required to record telephone conversations in Ireland, rendering the recording legal and admissible. Single party consent means that it is not illegal to record a telephone conversation if one of the parties to the call or conversation consent to the recording. Only single party consent is required for recording conversations whether on a phone or in person. In Ireland, one party can record and the other party need not agree or be informed of same.

This issue came to the public attention in recent years when Oliver Connolly, the former Garda Confidential Recipient, complained that his constitutional right to privacy had been infringed when the whistle blower Sergeant McCabe released tapes of a conversation he had with Connolly on the telephone. Despite protests by Connolly, there was nothing unlawful about the taping of that conversation.

On this basis, it is understood that the recording of conversations is legal and recordings can be used as evidence in court, provided that the person recording is a participant to the conversation or has consent from at least one participant from the conversation.

Wouldn't it be great if they'd pursue, with the same vigour, the career criminals and anti social wretches who make people's lives a misery every day.

We have in this country an underclass - native and increasingly foreign - who get a free ride from the useless Gardai and Judges - yet these same cretins waste no time locking up an eccentric auld one.

Clown country run by arseholes - that's my new slogan for Ireland.

Look at Judge Nolan, very lenient on certain types.

Did you not used to be a fan of Rudolf Steiner, the Kybalion and other such wooey slop and slush? Glass houses and stones again, glass houses and stones....

Have we ascertained whether recording a phone call with the other person knowing is illegal in Ireland.

Similarly, is it illegal to record a face to face conversation without the other person knowing.

In Massachusetts, both are illegal

Very good. ( even if odd, but that is Ireland)

So now the situation I believe is that the garda brought her before a court and a judge irdered her to desist, she did not, and was arrested.

Yes we fucking know that. But the issue is both parties must consent to that recording being published.
Why are you so angry?

There is a thin allowance for publication of a private telephone conversation,

Public Interest Exception

Publishing a recording may be defensible if it highlights illegal activity and is deemed to be in the public interest. However:

This defense is narrow and subject to judicial interpretation.

The illegal activity must be significant, and the publication must be proportionate to the harm caused by breaching privacy.

Regarding Nolan, one of the things that's interesting is that he is actually quite harsh on certain cases, ie, non sex crimes.

As you correctly state, he is only 'very lenient' on certain types.

Which is odd.

20 years' after the paedophile former judge Brian Curtin's case was dismissed due to the warrant served being ruled ONE DAY out of date there is still no proper disclipinary and investigation process as regards judges.

I admittedly don't know much about Michelle Keane but Burke is hardly a political prisoner by any reasonable stretch. He was jailed for contempt of court - for repeatedly refusing to obey valid court orders.

And why do you think he was refusing to obey those kangaroo court orders?
Or do you think at all?

Michelle Keane is not a "Political Prisoner".

Pretending she is makes a mockery of, is an injustice towards, the many true prisoners of conscience in the world.

And the spectacle of you halfwit little monsters spuriously calling yourself "nationalists", swinging behind yet another grifting cheerleader for your idiot logic, as an excuse to chant your fascist and totalitarian slogans, should raise anyone's ire.

If they had an ounce of sense.
How much is your dole payment in Norway?

You are some lug.

Michelle Keane will go before a judge and likely expunge her contempt. It is not a complicated thing

But no doubt, she is treated harshly because she is a Nationalist.

For example, a person suspected of murder, was out without charge yesterday. Michelle Keane gets locked up away from her job and taking care of her children because some auld hag had her feelings hurt or something.

Nobody mentioned nationalist in this thread apart from you.

Michelle Keane has made a lot of noise about immigration and vote rigging, perfectly valid things anyone should be able to discuss in a democratic country.

It's obvious to me the establishment like they have with Enoch want to shut her up and will use kangaroo courts to force through their will.

It's not nationalist to be concerned with these things, it's the duty of every citizen to highlight this and do what they can to stop this otherwise we will quickly end up into a communist Nazi shit hole which is clearly the path the UK is on.

I would have voted to string up the cowardly prick. And what was he doing with a rifle which is bad enough but a revolver as well.

If he was from Coolock, it would be a different result imo

Brainwashed irish clowns, spending their time complaining about guns, til their betters pulls out a revolver and is a tough guy. Then the jury lets him go.

seriously, this is an examply of a massacre ve inferiority complex that many irish have

Was this fella a Scumbag that deserved some extra holes though ? !

For hunting badgers???

the correct course would be. Tell the men to leave, if the refuse then tell them you are going back to the house for two guns.

It he was a nobody, he would get life. The three were not there to rob him, they were bacdger baiting with a few dogs

In Ireland ~ ~ He probably did get a lot easier run because of who he was alright !

But maybe the Scumbag ( if he was a Scumbag ) deserved it !

Really the Judge should come out and say ~ ~ Yeah, Yer Man was a Scumbag and deserved it !

It shows what these people are in truth: thugs. But they are 'loved'. 🤮 Hoors.
Kerry people are supposed to be Cute Hoors = = But how are they kissing the Asses of these Healy-Rae Fuckers ! !

Wasn't there, IRA / Irish Republicans, in parts of Kerry as well ? !

Ofc. Idk what those bygone men's opinions would have been of this new breed of hoor though.
Imo the HR's are elected because they appear to get at least the few crumbs off the big cake: a hospital here, a bypass there etc..
They haven't fixched de roads in quite some time though - they aren't the late Jackie who imo was genuinely interested in getting things done for Kerry - ofc I could be wrong on that score but he did get the ball rolling at times.
Kerry has been allowed to become the dumping ground for invaders and ever decreasing service levels and worse roads....Those boyos better up the ante or Kerry will vote FFG again (😵‍💫)

Michelle now has hooked up with a lafy from Tipperary I believe and they have some serious stuff on lowry.

why people vote for these lugs s a mystery

Maybe they don't. One example, if you look at how both Niall Boylan and Hutch were both pipped at post by establishment candidates in same constituency (Euro/local.elections) you see a pattern
