An argument of Young Earth Creationists, at least when I was a Lass because I haven't heard it in a while but than again it could be an Ulster thing, was that if humanity was around for as long as official Occidental Science now tells us than we would be a lot more technologically advanced.

I know that you don't believe me but there are simply no credible arguments for the following;

1. Flat Earth
2. Young Earth
3. Intelligent Design

Of course, some people would say that the Fermi Paradox isn't a paradox at all and I would tend to agree. First of all, it makes the assumption that (intelligent) life should be abundant in the universe, eh, why? And the rarity of intelligent life is perhaps the simplest solution to the Fermi Paradox.

Take for example what I said to Feuds, for simplicity's sake, imagine it was just us and one other advanced civilisation in the entire universe. Clearly the alien civilisation would be wrong to conclude that no other advanced civilisation exists because they haven't detected any (or us in this case (us being the extraterrestrials from their POV))

And then some people say - but haven't we been emitting radio signals for over a century? Yeah, so. They're still limited to the speed of light and while technically infinite are also subject to the inverse square law, so an advanced civilisation even in our immediate galactic neighbourhood would need some pretty fancy-schmancy gear to detect them.

So I think that the answer, as are so many to the big questions in science, is that it's unknown.

Feuds I think is a Christian (much to the chagrin of Tiger :)) and it's been a bit of a mixed bag so far from the Christians but I'd like to know that if you don't believe aliens exist (forget UFOs for a second) then why not, is it purely a religious belief? 🤔

I mean, you conceded that aliens might exist (or you folded like a cheap suitcase under questioning :)) and that is something that I would like to establish as a religious belief, or not

I would say I'm a perennial, like René Guenon. I think there is value in all religious systems.

I still believe there are other galaxies, though. Is that what you are referring to?

Quite true, and it might be added that our signals are pathetically weak when measured on a galactic scale, and if there are other civilizations using the same frequency then their signals will be jumbled with ours and it all becomes a background noise to a third civilisation, if they can hear it at all.

I once came across the the argument that it is as if nature never intended civilizations to contact one another by any means, so maybe be should just settle for assuming there is intelligent life out there, but we will never know about it with our present technology.

There's no reason why a technological civilisation has or does exist somewhere in the cosmos.
The issue is have they the ability to contact us or interact with us now?
I don't think that there's enough evidence.
Blurry pictures and iffy accounts don't do it for me.
The galaxy is enormous amongst an infinity of same.
The energy to travel around in anything /time that is feasible is enormous.
If a civilisation had such technology it would be invisible to our current abilities or such civilisation couldn't care less and would ignore us.
So personally I think the whole ufo thing is bogus.

But that will happen and soon enough. The Occult groups behind the alien hoax have vast resources and have been planning this for ages. That could easily include building an actual 'spacecraft', with quite possibly some advanced technology we don't know anything about until now (including maybe some anti-gravity device and 'free' energy system?).

What worries me is the reaction of people after these very elaborate hoaxes come to the fore. I hope it won't be like the vaccine, where everybody assured me they wouldn't take it but give it years of wall to wall media brainwashing and then...

Woody's experience (post #66) is quite similar to my own, and I think many others..

So, years ago, I was leaving a nightclub walking on slightly elevated ground across a car park, overlooking an expanse of water a few miles to the next shore. Then I noticed a light, the light was airborne although quite low and seemed to be hovering around the other shoreline. Then it started moving, very uniformly, very straight, and very fast (likes miles per second) in a sort of zigzag. Then it disappeared

This was of course well before the commonality of drones (not that a drone could move that fast) and there was no visible source for the light.

And before anyone thinks, leaving a nightclub eh, at 2am, a bit pissed were ya? 😆

Well, I was walking with a friend, chatting away and then both of us noticed it at the same time, stopped talking dead in our tracks, watching it. And then after it disappeared, we both looked at each other and said WTF was that?

Like Cox, i would find it hard to believe that microbial life isn't everywhere, but evolved, intelligent life, like us, could be exceedingly rare, possibly even unique in our epoch

Haven't heard much about crop circles of late, and some of them were pretty fancy with no one being quite sure how they were formed, even if by mischievous locals after a night on the soup.
