Does the European Union perhaps simply need to be reformed so that it is more ideal?

If not, why did a Communist, Jeremy Corbyn, want to leave the European Union?

Trump said the European Union was created to compete with America. If that's the case, is a reformed European Union not necessary in order to prevent us from being controlled by America?

The EU (I've mentioned it a few times)
Was created with a few simple ideas.
Make sure that the people of Europe have.
Food
Energy
And fair and transparent trade rules and regulations.
Nothing else.
Do the above and pretty much leave everything else alone.
The insidious mission creep since mid 80s has accelerated to the bat shit crazy authoritarianism of the arch incompetent VDL and the placemen around her.
The EU is the real threat to Europe.

This is what the failing EU does best.
It's totally out of control and it will end badly all round.

EU admits blackmailing Serbian leader over Moscow visit

Aleksandar Vucic will set back his bid to join the bloc should he attend Russia’s WWII victory celebration, Brussels has said

The European Commission (EC) has admitted that it will negatively impact Serbia’s EU bid if President Aleksandar Vucic visits Moscow’s Victory Day celebrations as planned on May 9.
Russia plans to host a military parade in the center of the capital to mark the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s 1945 triumph over Nazi Germany in World War II. EU top diplomat Kaja Kallas warned earlier this month that the bloc does not want any member or candidate states attending the event.
EC Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos met with Vucic on Tuesday and warned that his presence in Moscow would be held against Serbia’s EU aspirations, spokesperson Guillaume Mercier said in a press briefing in Brussels on Wednesday.
“The participation of President Vucic at the military parade in Moscow will impact” Belgrade’s EU accession process, the EC spokesperson said.

“She passed on the message that was shared by many other EU member states that the participation in Moscow will have an impact on the EU path,” he said when asked about what the EU response could be, but declined to elaborate further.
As Belgrade is vying for membership in the bloc, Serbia should use the occasion to demonstrate its “strategic direction,” Mercier said.
Earlier this month, Vucic told the press that he had not changed his decision to visit Moscow for the May 9 celebration. A unit of the Serbian Armed Forces will take part in the Victory Day parade on Red Square, the president said.

During World War II, Serbia, then part of Yugoslavia, was occupied by the Nazis and was liberated by the Red Army in 1944.
Moscow has extended numerous invitations to the May 9 celebration, including to China, India, and Brazil, as well as other international leaders. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will miss the event due to highly elevated tensions with neighboring Pakistan, but Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to represent New Delhi at the event.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has hailed the courage of European leaders who have chosen to attend and celebrate the memory of the fight against Nazism, despite pressure from Brussels.

The idea of the European Union was to put a stop to the nationalisms that lead to unending violence and aggression

It sought to end competition among so-called national interests for markets, resources and spheres of influence, that perpetually lead to national conflict.

The painful lessons of the generation that, from the end of the 19th century to 1945, lived through nationalism, and the ensuing German wars of unification, and the two world wars, the last of which nearly destroyed civilization, werecdrwn on to come up with the new idea of a postnational order.

Lessons which ignorant people today have turned their backs on in an attempt to repeat that history.

You sir are not always correct according to me and my own personal prejudices- but I nonetheless admire you for taking a stab at reviving Medieval European norms. We still live in an age in which all that is deemed 18th century to be correct. Even two centuries later we still haven't recovered in the sense of what is to be considered right and what is considered to be wrong- anybody who dares disagree with the 'darlings of the so-called Enlightenment are deemed insane, or unworthy to hear. Feudalism of course seems barbaric to us- but t'was an age in which every Irishman / every fellow European could truly call their homeland, their mother nation. As much as I love to read about the French Revolution, I still read Hillaire Beloc......the Enlightenment of Voltaire and Jefferson wielded many benefits....but perhaps such men and their ideas are outdated, perhaps we need a new European ideal. Again- I'm bigoted towards European Enlightenment ideals....bul looking around at the world of me today.....I can no longer claim that my idealism is all but correct and yours wrong

You're a good poster and I don't always agree with you - but please continue to challenge minds in the way that you do.

I think the EU is a very easy scapegoat alright. As we saw with Convid in 2020, there are much bigger powers then the eu pulling strings behind the scene.

I would be better inclined to go along with this if the EU was not so mad keen on promoting the globalist agenda.

The absolute police state law brought in a couple of years ago in the UK that will make it illegal in the future for a 50 year old to buy cigarettes was introduced by a Tory Prime minister, if someone had told me 10 years ago about such a law coming, I'd have thought it would be the EU to blame, but no, what has leaving the EU done for the average Brit ?

Can the EU survive if Putin gobbles up all Ukraine and all that money is never to be returned. There is a very large can for someone to be left holding

It might have been better not to have actively supported the Ukrainians.
And furthermore the Russians sre not going to take over all of Ukraine.
That's not the plan and it's a surefire guarantee to impoverishment for Russians.
Financially and far more relevant politically with non stop insurgency.
And if the hoi poli morons of Euro politics finally provoke a direct conflict with Russia.
Do they still believe the US will risk a nuclear weapon?
Think again.
