The Gardaí ain't looking good on this ! ! !
Shocking. Keystone Kops. Putting on my sleuth hat though - IF they drained and searched the tank weeks ago and found nothing - then someone put the remains in there AFTER thinking they wouldn't be found
But how then did the tank fill up after being emptied - the wife sold the cattle like days after he went missing.
My personal guess is that the tank wasn't thoroughly searched the first time.
Horrible story.

It is confirmed now that human parts or tissue have been found and this is just a giant fuck up out of all proportion
Since the body parts were found on the field after spreading, and they used an agitator to drain the slurry tank, its going to be hard to know if he was in one piece in the tank or not. And impossible to know cause of death.

No. What channel. Feinics?
Edit. What Michelle had to say? Wow.
But if you could link over there it'd be sweet. Delete it after the few hours.

Give us a clue.
I don't have tellegram.
He just gave an account of what is already reported in the newspapers - and that there were 2 slatted slurry pits - only one of which was properly emptied.
I like telegram btw. Still relatively free, for what it is ( no doubt their are palantiring everything that's said, but hey ho)

Palantir - an AI system that surveils everything you do - everywhere - and everyone you have contact with - anywhere - and then risk assesses how soon they'll send you to be re-educated - or perhaps something darker.
And no I'm not joking.
Or maybe a little bit - for the time being.

You do not use an agitator to drain a slurry tank, you use a vacuum tanker.

An agitator will not chop a body up, it will start to make a mess of it then block.

If there are parts of a body that have gone through the slurry system and made it out of a tanker then it will have needed to be chopped up first.

Now stick to what you know, which is feck all.

Poor Michael Gaine tried to do a Good Deed and it seems that Good Deed was indeed Punished ! ! !

People have to be wary of these Nutters, because many of these Nutters are very dangerous ! ! !

You miss the point as usual.

They used an agitator to drain the tank. Unless you want to be pedantic? Well ok. They used an agitator to liquify the solid slurry and an a pump to move the contents.

I think if I corrected my farmer dad like that he"d cut me out of the will.

You need a bit of common sense boyo.

Now the agitator introduces an element of doubt into how the body was damaged. Its as simple as that. I did not say "An agitator will not chop a body up".

I simply said its going to be hard to know if he was in one piece in the tank or not. And impossible to establish cause of death. He also could have been in the tank up to 8 weeks since it appears it may not have been completly searched at the outset. So some decomposition of soft tissue would have occurred.

Anyone charged on this is going to make these points in their defense (unless they admit guilt). It means a reasonable doubt is introduced.

Unless of course you possess first hand knowledge of what an agitator will do to a human body suspended in slurry? In which case, please tell us more and how you know.

Get back to Google you great ignorant twat.

You know nothing but now your dad just happens to be a framer!

Walter Mitty has nothing on you.

Should an agitator encounter a body then it will break the shear bolt long before it chops it up, they are designed to mix slurry, not butcher carcasses.

Here, I've saved you the bother - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shear_pin

Horrible story.
Rain can often run in, although every attempt is usually made to keep it out, but a couple of broken gutters or similar can put paid to that.

What might make the story even more gory is that to find body parts in the field and assume they have been spread by a vacuum tanker means that it had to be cut up beforehand. Trying to suck a leg bone up into the tanker will simply block it and despite our new found farmers son's assertion that an agitator would have done that, it is laughably implausible.

A quick word on slurry agitators.

There are basically two types, a big propeller on the end of a shaft driven by a tractors PTO. These sound like they could do the job but the blade edges are blunt and don't cut. They are for stirring rather than propulsion after all.

The second type is a link mounted affair as shown here. Note how the impeller at the base is shrouded and cannot come into contact with a body. This model has a further propeller to keep large objects away from the intake.

These are the more common agitators in use today, and yes, they can be used as pumps to transfer from tank to tank, but seldom are (it's been a few years since I last used one). If tanks had been pumped dry by an agitator then they needed to pump it somewhere, you can't just go tipping it on fields.

If body parts small enough to mixed in to the slurry were present then it suggests pre-processing with a chainsaw, or some other method of butchery.

"It’s believed that a body – now believed to be that of Michael Gaine – had been in the tank before slurry was taken from it for use on the fields last Friday.

As part of typical farming practices, a machine known as an agitator is used to break down solid material that may be in a slurry tank before a spreader is filled.

It is understood the agitator used at the Gaine farm is forming part of the probe today as investigators determine its impact on the body while it was inside the tank."

Very possible the significant damage by the agitator was to the lower torso, resulting in the vertebrae that were found.

And I'm beginning to think that involving an agitator is part of that fuck up.

correct me if I am wrong but is the purpose of the agitator just to shake up the slurry to ensure the dangerous gases are vented off somewhat safely before the slurry is to be removed and spread. Some might think it is part of the mechanism in the spreader which is powered by the PTO

Slurry is complex substance that varies greatly depending on the animal producing it and how that animal is fed.

What must be remembered is that it is a live substance consisting of indigestible matter and the bugs that broke down the digestible bits, plus urine and other bits and bobs, including chunks of pallets, uneaten silage, grit from the feed etc.

What happens in a slurry tank is that it tends to separate and form two distinct layers, a liquid faction and solid crust of fibrous material that sits on top it.

These two layers need recombining to a consistent liquid before it can sucked up by a vacuum tanker and taken to the field for spreading.

It is the job of the agitator to do this.

Looking at the picture of an agitator shown above you will see a round housing at the end of a tube. This is a crude centrifugal pump for inside is a spinning impeller which pushes the liquid against the inner wall of the housing, the only way it can escape is via the outlet on the left side of the housing.

This arrangement causes the slurry to flow up the attached pipe which then diverts it up to the top of the agitator for pumping to another tank or it is directed to the nozzle just above the impeller.

The slurry emerges from this nozzle at a fair old rate and this jet is directed back into the tank to break up the crust and mix it with the liquid, depending on how undisturbed a crust is a couple of hours should do it although I once spent a day breaking the crust on a silo . It’s all very basic but it works.

Gas is indeed released during the process, but that is not the primary function of the agitator. After emptying, and flushing if possible, a tank should be left to vent for a day or two before entering.

The point to remember is that agitators are designed to work with soft materials and liquids, solids such as bones will tend to block the system and cause shear bolts to snap, thus protecting the mechanicals from damage.

The type of tanker used is also important here. The old splash plate type pushes the slurry out of a nozzle against an angled plate causing a big fan of slurry to form behind the tanker. Small bits of solid will pass through this hole, but they can still block.

Spreaders with booms are a different matter altogether for the slurry has to pass through much narrower pipes to the outlets. To do so it is passed through a macerator which either grinds the solids up, or blocks.

At the end of the day all precautions are taken to remove solid lumps from the process as this causes issues further down the line.

Bits of the unfortunate Farmer Gaine would very much fall under this category, and as can be seen from the photo a body cannot come into contact with the impeller, which usually has a grid over the intake anyway.

Ya. Sorry to say but there is no way the poor man's remains went in there in one piece. What was put in - in order of the fact that we know that bits were collected from a field - were small pieces. A vertebrae was found to have blocked the pipe - that small.
I am sick to my core at the evil that did that to a human.
A person that needs to spend the rest of their miserable life in jail.
Poor man.

Sarcasm? If no - ok. I often don't get these things.
I can tell you we are all desperately upset at what happened to one of our own.

I see from the newspaper headlines that the army has been called in to try and find minute remnants of Gaine in a field covered in slurry that is growing away again, making it virtually impossible to spot anything smaller than a beer crate.

The whole thing is a total farce now, have the army nothing better to do than pick through shit looking for the odd tooth or maybe a whole finger nail?

And what about all the other people that go missing in Ireland, why not a similar effort to find them so that distressed relatives might at last have some peace?

Have I missed something, is there definite evidence of a body in the slurry tank or is it still conjecture?

Is there Cadaver Dogs in Ireland or even Cadaver Dogs in the UK ( some-where / anywhere ) that could have been brought in, to search for a body when they were looking for Michael Gaine ?

The Guards ain't looking good on this one !
