From my understanding,

The domain politics.ie has actually expired and gone through the full ICANN/IEDR lifecycle. I checked the WHOIS and here’s where it stands:

• It was allowed to expire in July 2025.
• It went into the redemption period (about 30 days where the owner could have paid a hefty fee to get it back).
• It’s now in pendingDelete. That’s the final stage – lasts about 5 days.
• After that, the domain gets dropped from the registry and anyone can grab it, provided they meet the .ie requirements (Irish address, citizenship, or business connection).

That’s why the site is down – the domain itself is on hold and no longer resolves. The old owners can’t save it at this point, even if they wanted to.

So basically, unless someone new registers it when it drops, https://politics.ie is gone for good. If someone does catch it, they could relaunch the site under the same name.

The owner I understand was DJ Baxter, he owned a few sites but passed in 2022. As to who was running it afterwards is anyones guess, probably had purchased a long license and it eventually ran out.
