I was at a conference recently where a fellow was madly expounding on the wonders of AI, explaining that the secret lies in knowing how to use it. As an example he said that when asking it to write a job advert you need to input just what the job is to cover, salary, T&Cs etc, and then when it has spat out its reply you need to validate the result. Everybody was looking at each other and thinking the same thing, wouldn't it be a damn sight quicker to just do it yourself!

With so much money being pumped into it, it will be a long time before anyone admits that it’s the ‘emperors new clothes’. Most tech companies have bet everything they have on it.

The fact that the amount of energy it takes for ChatGPT to tell you where the nearest McDonalds is could power an average family home for a year, is something else that never gets discussed.

I would though, suggest that the amount of energy required for AI is becoming more widely appreciated, but naturally the people with billions invested are the same as those who want to sweep it under the carpet.
