Sunken reputational costs fallacy!Further to my post above (1,977) I mentioned that there was a particular item of interest in Dr Bratby's submission to the Commons Science and Technology Committee on 'Climate Change'.
In it he refers to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) noting that climate models don't work and quotes from TAR (Third Assessment Report) of 2001 -
It has to be remembered that the IPPC has said “In climate research and modelling, we should recognise that we are dealing with a coupled non-linear chaotic system, and therefore that the long-term prediction of future climate states is not possible”. The public is aware that all long term forecasts are wrong and no amount of propaganda will change this fact.
That quote came from page 771 of TAR and I saw it there myself within the last year or so. However, should one go there now it will not be found, instead there is much waffle about the need to improve the models and how.
Basically it appears that the IPCC has removed this admission and replaced it with vague passages about how they may be changed, which, in a way, is still an admission that they are not fit for purpose.
The organisation could of, at a later date, and in a further report, simply noted that they are working to improve the models, but no, it sneakily removed the original passage instead. Hardly the action of an organisation that prides itself on its scientific and moral integrity.
