Here is a classic case of the MSM driving an agenda which is somewhat divorced from the reality at ground level.

CBC News of Canada interviewed Greenland's leader of the opposition who basically pointed out that it's Greenland's choice and the rest of the world, especially the MSM, can bugger off.

He points to the fact that Denmark itself annexed Greenland 300 years ago and that Greenland's government have granted the US permission to establish bases on the island as recently as 2020. He also notes what Trump has actually said which is far less bellicose than what the media are bigging it up to be.

I don't think that's going to happen. There is the possibility that Greenland is sat there worrying that either the Chinese or America is going to come after its minerals so it's better to cosy up to its neighbours rather than come under Chinese 'influence'. Deals will be done, the US will get to park a few more planes there and have access to all the rubies and diamonds while Greenland remains independent. It's worth noting that it's not too keen on having Denmark as its daddy either.

As for all the US sabre rattling, the GOP does love to stir up the leftards as much as we do.

Simon Harris is off to meet with California's own Gavin Newsome, almost like he's trying to wind Trump up for whatever reason. Hopefully Trump sets ICE on Harris, and send him back in handcuffs, after a good old fashioned beating

Well. Adults would have quietly re- opened diplomatic channels with Russia. Handed them that unmitigated cesspool Ukraine and kissed a few arses to reopen the last remaining NS2 pipeline.

And for all the money that went sloshing around for decades we still dont have our airport connected by metro. That would have come in handy given how the last of our clever young and ablebodied head for the exit double quick.

Some Frenchman is talking about fighting the US. Brendan O'Connor said on RTE that because drugs are coming from the US, we should send the Irish air force and navy to kidnap Trump and his wife. Sounds like a far right terrorist threat to me. Someone should report him to the US Embassy.

Ambassadors from the European Unionā€™s 27 member states are set to convene for an emergency meeting on Sunday, after President Donald Trump announced a wave of increasing tariffs on eight European NATO states that oppose a ā€œcomplete and total purchaseā€ of Greenland by the US.
The emergency talks follow a forceful declaration of solidarity with Denmark by the blocā€™s top leadership, which warned that Trumpā€™s tariffs ā€œwould undermine transatlantic relations and risk a dangerous downward spiral.ā€

In identical statements posted on social media, European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen rejected any questioning of Danish sovereignty over Greenland.

ā€œTerritorial integrity and sovereignty are fundamental principles of international law,ā€ they stated. ā€œThe EU stands in full solidarity with Denmark and the people of Greenland.ā€

The tariffs, announced by Trump on Saturday, target Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland, which recently sent small military contingents to Greenland. EU leaders have emphasized that the Danish-led exercise was pre-coordinated and ā€œposes no threat to anyone.ā€

ā€œWe have consistently underlined our shared transatlantic interest in peace and security in the Arctic, including through NATO,ā€ they said.

The EUā€™s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, added that ā€œif Greenlandā€™s security is at risk, we can address this inside NATO.ā€ She argued that ā€œChina and Russia must be having a field day,ā€ arguing that they benefit from divisions within the bloc. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has refused to comment on the growing dispute.

In recent weeks, Trump has renewed and intensified efforts to annex or aquire Greenland, a goal he has pursued since his first term. He claims the acquisition is vital for US national security to counter Chinese and Russian influence in the Arctic ā€“ an assertion both Beijing and Moscow have rejected.
