Net zero crackdown on farming ‘raises risk of wildfires’​


A net zeto crackdown on farming has raised the risk of wildfires engulfing the British countryside, according to campaign groups.

Andrew Gilruth, the chief executive of the Moorland Association, said policies encouraging the removal of livestock had led to overgrown bracken and heather, which can worsen rural blazes.

He said: "The key to managing wildfires is to reduce fuel load. Grazing is an essential part of that. Putting that into perspective, if you leave a sheep out on the hill all year, it would consume a tonne of vegetation. Two thousand sheep would consume 2,000 tonnes of potential fuel load."

Ten years ago a NASA report indicated that CO2 was having a significant effect on the greening of the planet, that is to say there is a huge benefit in higher carbon dioxide levels. There appears to have been no follow up studies, nor has NASA repeated the exercise, or so it seems. Can't think why.....
