The number of pubs in Ireland has declined by an “alarming” 21 per cent in the past 16 years, a report shows.

Analysis by the Drinks Industry Group of Ireland (DIGI) found a “stark” decline in the number of public houses, with some 1,829 closures across the country between 2005 and last year.

They include some 349 pubs that closed during the pandemic.

As of the end of last year there were a total of 6,788 pubs in the country, down from 8,617 in 2005.

Maybe two sheep max if you supplement with a bit of barley. Or asinine goat but they are difficult to corral.

Was in local Wetherspoons today and looked at the lunch menu

Deli: All wraps, paninis, rolls etc €4.50 with a soft drink (€6.50 with alcoholic drink)

8" Pizzas with every topping you can think of - same price.

Burgers & Fries, different options, all €6.00 with drink (€8 with alcoholic drink)

Then there's fish & chips, pasta, lasagne, salad, chill con carne, sausage-chips-beans, vegan options etc for €7 with drink

I've had their food and its pretty decent.

A fool & his money are easily parted. If folk in Dublin want to continue to pay 20 quid for a pint and a few wings then good luck to them.

But in these straightened times others are finding quality & value elsewhere.

4.50 for a set drink seems pretty high. How do people survive over there. What is a regular weeks wage after tax.

Do you mean a soft drink? I'd say its around €3 with Guinness €5-€5.50.

I'd say a regular weeks wages after tax would be around €650.

A new place opened here a few days ago in Weymouth owned by two Mayo lads. $8 for the black stuff.

They pay extra for the craic and the chance of meeting someone interesting.

Great craic and very interesting folk in Wetherspoons. Trust me Sir.
Have they bought the George in Georges St and the Panti Bar in Caple ? Gay bars should have to have a badge at the door to
warm normal customers. You could get groped. Or even graped if there were a bunch of them.

I was possibly the best publican Ireland ever produced.
You are not praising yourself, you are assessing yourself. Self praise is no praise self assessment is the way to go. I assessed myself and
discovered I was a genius.

I would guess you are middle middle class. Not bad. I am only lower upper class myself.

Good riddance to the rip off merchants. I haven't been to a pub in years. A 6 pack or bottle of wine at home does the job.

There are three classes and each is divided by three. It is based on traditional military officer ranking. If an officer is commissioned from the beginning as a 2nd Lieutenant he is lower middle class and can rise to higher middle class. If he joins as a private, he can be commissioned
but remains in middle class. If he rises above the rank of Captain, he is automatically in upper class and can move up all the way with promotion.

In civilian life, one is born in to a class. You can only move within that class. You cannot move from upper middle to lower high class.

If I have my way there is going to be one less of them today as you let in Doggie. Take this and see how you like it.

They brought new rules in earlier this year so that pubs could serve from 10:30am on Sunday like the rest of the week.

Does that apply to today aswell, it being Easter Sunday?
