The number of pubs in Ireland has declined by an “alarming” 21 per cent in the past 16 years, a report shows.

Analysis by the Drinks Industry Group of Ireland (DIGI) found a “stark” decline in the number of public houses, with some 1,829 closures across the country between 2005 and last year.

They include some 349 pubs that closed during the pandemic.

As of the end of last year there were a total of 6,788 pubs in the country, down from 8,617 in 2005.

Maybe two sheep max if you supplement with a bit of barley. Or asinine goat but they are difficult to corral.

Was in local Wetherspoons today and looked at the lunch menu

Deli: All wraps, paninis, rolls etc €4.50 with a soft drink (€6.50 with alcoholic drink)

8" Pizzas with every topping you can think of - same price.

Burgers & Fries, different options, all €6.00 with drink (€8 with alcoholic drink)

Then there's fish & chips, pasta, lasagne, salad, chill con carne, sausage-chips-beans, vegan options etc for €7 with drink

I've had their food and its pretty decent.

A fool & his money are easily parted. If folk in Dublin want to continue to pay 20 quid for a pint and a few wings then good luck to them.

But in these straightened times others are finding quality & value elsewhere.

4.50 for a set drink seems pretty high. How do people survive over there. What is a regular weeks wage after tax.

Do you mean a soft drink? I'd say its around €3 with Guinness €5-€5.50.

I'd say a regular weeks wages after tax would be around €650.

What is the inflation cost on a pint over this same period?

They brought new rules in earlier this year so that pubs could serve from 10:30am on Sunday like the rest of the week.

Does that apply to today aswell, it being Easter Sunday?
