For approximately the last month (c.10th of May 2025 to date) an ongoing 24/7 protest encampment, by peaceful picket, has prevented workers from doing up one building, and others from entering a second building adjoining it, which are slated for an IPAS centre at Basin Lane near Guinness and the South Side Liberties in Dublin City Centre. The two buildings are 8A, already an IPAS centre, and now the work is being done to 9A for the same purpose, both in Basin View.

This protest encampment is on the receiving end of the full 'NGO' and Irish state treatment for its heroic stand. Gary Gannon, a Social Democrat TD in the area, has been down condemning the protest and a local supposedly ad hoc and non government related group, bringing together some local national schools and others, has released a statement condemning this community action, with the usual widespread positive publicity. The resulting statement from this group would do credit to any Communist propaganda machine with its faux outrage at 'hate' etc etc ( https://canalwayetns.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Safety-for-Everyone-Basin-Lane.pdf ).

Anyway they are still going and I believe deserve our full support!

Gary Gannon (along with Maria Sherlock) have made appearances at a different protest Northside, Portland Place which is in his constituency. There are so many now it's hard to keep up

One of the more run down, rough parts of the south inner city. I used to cycle through there regularly when I rented a room in nearby Dublin 12. Definitely not somewhere you'd be strolling around after dark.

I think the victory in Coolock has given hope to working class communities who have this constant threat (of gangs of third world men fleeing safe countries being dumped on their doorstep) hanging over them.
