When the remote small village/rural area of Dundrum Co. Tipperary was informed that their hotel, which already hosts some Ukrainians, was going to host large numbers of international migrants a protest camp at the entrance to the hotel in question, was set up. In some respects its simply to 'get their hotel back' because they rely a lot on it for amenities and of course for local business, tourism being in otherwise great trouble when you consider that the only other hotel in the whole region is a 5 star one in Cashel.
They are still running this, which is manned 24/7, over 50 days later, despite repeated visits from the Gardaí, called, it seems, as a result of complaints from the hotel management. Unusually for these encampments, although it is quite large and well equipped, nobody sleeps there, instead at night a number of people gather around a fire and chat and play cards etc. Last night there was some 15 people staying overnight.
There are already a number of Ukrainians in the hotel and the objection is not to them, but rather to the large proposed increase in migrants into this, proposed, IPAS centre.
What follows is an interview with Lorraine, visiting from Limerick says No, Anthony, and Nora O'Dwyer.
