I'm on the road since the 80s. Drive around 60k per year average. The level of fuckery out there is mindboggling. Ridiculous speeding on potholed roads, tailgating even there is no human way of overtaking for long distances, creeping along at 30kms, stopping wherever the fancy takes ya, no high vis vests on black clad pedestrians and throw in the bane of my life large groups of mamils especially on weekends.
And to add additional fun, revenue vans on the one good stretch of road. They seem to have given up on my part of Kerry though - haven't seen one in months.
The sad state of driving in this place surely must have something to do with how we teach young drivers: my youngest passed the test without ever having driven on a motorway, learned how to merge, drive at night etc.
Hair raising tbh. Teaching such elementals was down to me. And don't start me on the whole learner permit thing, an antediluvian concept tgat is no longer fit for modern traffic volumes.

I've been driving/riding since the seventies with a well used HGV category to boot and nothing has really changed behaviour wise. Cars have got quicker and more comfortable, but they have also got safer, in fact I cannot believe how they just go round corners nowadays without actually having to be driven. Tyres, brakes and suspensions are a million miles from what they were forty odd years ago and by rights there should be a lot more accidents because there are lot more cars, but it hasn't worked out that way.

I find this egregious regards poor me nonsense. If you have land, and trees on said land, you are obligated to make sure that any said trees are not able to hit your house for one thing, where you are allowed by law, updated ten years ago to take such down even without a license if they are likely to hit your house, where you should get someone who knows how to take said tree down properly, unless you know what you are doing. The trees on a road in an urban area is a different story, and should have been sorted by the councils long ago, different issue.

If you have a forest on your land, again you are obligated to either get on to teagasc or whatever government body you are connected with regards such, to tell them to take down any trees that may take out any electricity line or pole out, if you don't yourself have a felling license, not many do. It is on you to demand such, as if you expect them to come out and check your forest for you and then do such, you are not living in the real world regards how things work in Ireland. They will come out and fell said trees and even cut them up for ye, ye will still have the timber off it for burning/selling at least.

You can also get the esb to come out and fell trees that are anywhere near a electricity line of pole, they will come out with their own specialist to do such, I think it's around a few weeks at best for them to do such, again it is on you to say to them such.

If you have a tree anywhere near your house, that could land on your house, that is on your land, and you did not get it removed either through your own action, or asking a state body to do so, and it ends up going through your roof, no insurance company should have to pay out for such as far as I am concerned. What are you expecting to happen over the life span of a tree ?

The same goes for these stories I saw on repeat on the news back a week, from some lad in leitrim, where he planted a forest around his electirc lines, where the type of tree planted and it's roots would have a big effect on such, either way, the fact that a proper cordon/distance/felling regards said trees and the electric lines was not done after X amount of years, and so non actions regards such has consequences, is on the farmer/land owner. What do you expect ? Muh daddy state, save me ?

An awful lot of greed going on here, where funny, the example on the news on repeat I saw, is he could have sold his forest for 150,000 weeks before, but he held out for more. Instead of making sure that the trees that needed to be felled, for something that can grow for 20 to 30 years depending on the tree, was not done at some point over the years, is again, on the land owner.

I kept hearing about Leitrim, ye, the country that has the most trees planted on it regards land use, and it a cowboy county regards forestry management from what I can tell, actions have consequences.

You know in our part of Ireland anyway, the Council, ESB and Eir are very aggressive in knocking trees and mowing down hedgerows, I don't see more of that as any kind of solution to our current electricity problems? I wonder if somebody is pushing this line because they want the 5g signals to be more effective or something?
