Hermann Kelly is an Irish politician, activist, press officer, and former journalist who had served as the president of the Irish Freedom Party since 2018, until his recent ousting by party members in a vote where 108 members voted in favour of his removal and 66 voted against. The Irish Freedom Party have established a three-person committee to lead unity talks with other nationalist parties.

Party Chairman, Michael Leahy, in a video announcing the results thanked Kelly for his service to the party but said " I also think Hermann has become something of an obstacle to the promotion of unity " The Irish Freedom party have advocated for Ireland to leave the European Union and promotes policies focused on Irish national identity and cultural preservation.

Hermann Kelly was born in the Bogside area of Derry and received his education at St Columb's College, Derry, later studying marine biology and theology. He has worked as a teacher and journalist, including roles as a press officer for Nigel Farage and communications director for the Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy group in the European Parliament. Electoral attempts include running in the 2019 and 2024 European Parliament elections and the 2024 Irish general election, though he did not secured a seat in any of these elections. Since January 2025, he has served as Director of Communications for Danish MEP Anders Vistisen, a member of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group.

Later this evening, Hermann Kelly sits down to chat with Gerry O'Neill on The Scholar Gypsies about the vote to remove him as President of the Irish Freedom Party.

Kelly is an Irish politician, activist, press officer, and former journalist who had served as President of the Irish Freedom Party since 2018, until his recent ousting by party members in a vote where 108 members voted in favour of his removal and 66 voted against. However, Kelly is still currently a member of Irish Freedom Party and it's executive Ard Chomhairle.

The Irish Freedom party have advocated for Ireland to leave the European Union and promotes policies focused on Irish national identity and cultural preservation. It's been an interesting few months for Irish Nationalist parties in general with much change seemingly in the air with surprise move just one more example of that.

The Irish Freedom Party have established a three-person committee to lead unity talks with other nationalist parties. Party Chairman, Michael Leahy, in a video announcing the results axing Kelly thanked him for his service to the party but said

" I also think Hermann has become something of an obstacle to the promotion of unity "

Hermann Kelly was born in the Bogside area of Derry and received his education at St Columb's College, Derry, later studying marine biology and later theology. He has worked as a teacher and journalist, as well as roles as press officer for Nigel Farage and communications director for the Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy group in the European Parliament.

Kelly’s career in the European Parliament spans over 15 years, primarily within the Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy Group. Since August 2009, he has served as the EFDD’s Director of Communications, managing media relations for a coalition of about 40 MEPs across multiple nationalities.

In January 2025, Kelly expanded his European parliament portfolio by becoming Director of Communications for Danish MEP Anders Vistisen, a member of the right-wing European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR). This role involves advising Vistisen on media strategy and amplifying his legislative priorities, such as immigration control and EU reform.

Kelly’s earlier work with Romanian MEP Cristian Terheș (August 2020–April 2025) similarly focused on opposing COVID-19 vaccine mandates, a campaign that drew mainstream scrutiny for its alignment with anti-vaccine rhetoric. During this period, Kelly coordinated Terheș’s English-language communications, including viral videos challenging the EU Digital COVID Certificate, which he likened to "apartheid". Electoral attempts include running in the 2019 and 2024 European Parliamentary elections and the 2024 Irish general election, though he did not secure a seat in any of these electoral races.

Kelly joins me at 7pm this evening on the Scholar Gypsies from Brussels to discuss a range of issues not least the recent political upheavals and vote to remove him as party President. Please share the link below around in any groups you might be in as this promises to be an interesting conversation.

The 3 that removed him are more useless than even himself and the 108 that voted against him should have just joined the people that they want to unify with.

That's four ! ! !

How did your taxes work out for ya ? ! ;)
On first glance it might look like 4 but that is where your accountant comes in and applies what are known at deductions. Robert is an idiot and his IQ deduction is 10 so he is 90. Doran McMahon is the major write off I am told and should be called Moran for short, he is 55. Look at the imbecilic grin on Fergus, he is an 80 and the wan making the tae with the pus is a max of 75. .

Total 300.
A Triumvirate

He didn't speak as they limited it to elected representatives only.

A prudent decision in my opinion. If you start making exceptions, then you start hurting feelings.

Kelly was always going to be restricted due to this former association with Farage and with that loyalist guy in Belfast. Regardless of the similar views on the EU and social conservatism, his association was a permanent point that would be targeted effectively by sinn fein. Policy would be trumped by tribalism and Kelly would be the loser. Steenson seems to be the best acceptable front man given his republican pedigree. He has more of the aesthetic of a tough man, that this Leahy bloke or Barrett

that's not realistic if you want to succeed electorally. The lesson of Republican Sinn Fein would seem to point to that. RSF are fundamentally correct in their republican position but are completely irrelevant nowadays. Nobody seen the correctness of their position after all and came to rally to them. Provisional SF by adopting a more flexible position brought them a degree of success. It clear that PSF have went too far with regard to woke nonsense but would have perfectly positioned now to capture the frustration of the people if they had adopted a harsh anti-immigration position.

Jim Dowson is NOT from Belfast- he is Scottish. Also he was significantly problematic within the UK Pro-Life movement and even more so within the BNP. That said Kelly was not really involved with him, some youtuber sprang a discussion between him and Dowson on him in which Kelly looked very uncomfortable indeed, your man Niall in Donegal on the other hand.....The problems with Kelly have been outlined in "The Burkean".

Thete were more important people than him that did not speak. Tom McDonnell was not allowed speak and he is an elected county councilor from Kildare. Derek Blyghe likewise, who intended to make an important announcement. And others on different topics like Covid etc .
Imo, it was just a rally for the 4 speakers, Steenson, Pepper, Sutcliff and Quinlan.

and their stance on the case vid might not be very commendable at the time needless to say and they will want to avoid anything that doesn’t get them their objective, which is to get elected a TD

Covid is done and dusted in the minds of the majority of people. If the focus of the rally was immigration then its only proper that should be the only topic spoken about. Too much of a scatter-gun approach of issues allows us to painted as unfocused.

He is of the George Seawright variety.

Although one former NF later Traditional Catholic claimed that Seawright was privately very sympathetic to distributors.

Well this is the thing- there were two basic groups of Official National Front in the six counties, one which was primarily focused on Loyalism and one which was primarily focused on Deep Ecology and Jewish conspiracies. David Kerr and another character I am trying to remember the name of who was killed by the UK State (I cannot remember if it was the RUC or Army) rioting who were in the group primarily focused around Loyalism were close to Seawright. A lot of the English believed that Ulster Nationalism was a half way house compromise when in fact it represented the most extreme Prod faction.
