I am posting this for it's historical interest.

In it you have Shoah denial and the Khazar thesis about the origins of Eastern European Jews both which are firmly taboo on the US Right outside of what could be called it's "lunatic fringe". You also have opposition to Zionism and support and sympathy of the indigenous Palestinians. This was in a mainstream book by a mainstream public intellectual. How things have changed.

1947 seemed to be a pivotal year.

What makes you say that in particular?
From 1947

"Bernard Baruch coins the term "Cold War" to describe the relationship between the United States and the Soviet Union."

"Cold War: in an effort to fight the spread of Communism, the U.S. President Harry S. Truman signs an act into law that will later be called the Truman Doctrine. The act grants United States dollar known as $400 million in military and economic aid to Turkey and Greece.

Marshall Plan: In a speech at Harvard University, the United States Secretary of State George Marshall calls for economic aid to war-torn Europe.

The following year the Berlin blockade started.
So it a fair observation.
