The Islamists and their followers can see exactly what we can see: that Western Europe is in decline.

It's easy to point fingers, but perhaps a bit of introspection is needed. Why is it that in so many Western countries this cult has come to dominate political and social life? It's absolutely everywhere: in films, TV programmes, music. Young children go to school and they're bombarded with propaganda. Vulnerable, impressionable idiots are recruited; some of them go as far as to butcher their own body to conform.

For an entire month, we're subjected to a display of smugness and in-your-face triumphalism that would make North Korea blush.

It's astonishing, and is clearly a sign of serious social and political decline.

Why would anyone (Islamists included) take these societies seriously?

Q Manivannan said the "demonisation of rape" led to an overly simplistic idea about what kind of people committed the offence.

Rachael Hamilton, the Scottish Tory deputy leader, said: "I was appalled to hear this person minimise the ordeal of millions of women who have suffered at the hands of predatory men.
