Should the majority of people live a simple life in the countryside?

I'm reminded of the Irish poet Patrick Kavanagh & his criticism of the Irish countryside in his poem 'the Great Hunger'.

Is it not better that we prevent people from moving to Dublin & have them stay in the countryside even if they don't want to?

You could also make the point that suitably designed medium/high density housing with services, amenities etc is the best option.
But show me that in this country.

There is as much a rural housing shortage as there is an urban one. And just what are people going to do? All the evidence points to the fact that people don't want a simple life.

The simple answer is to hang up a sign in the airports/ ports : Full to capacity. No admittance in non- specialised categories for 10 years.
No social welfare for anyone unless they contributed for 10 years.
Send the passportless scum that arrived in the last decade home or else detain them on Spike Island or somewhere offshore like Australia does. Special attention to be paid to our Roma friends.
There. Fixed the housing crisis within a few months. Rural or urban.
Theoretically.

That sounds like Common Sense.

I think unless we have a general idea of returning to the countryside for most people, even if we solve the problem of excessive immigration by negroes & Communist Jews we won't solve the problem of the state of Ireland.

If we keep building up the city of Dublin & letting anyone from the countryside move there we'll eventually have a city which looks like something out of a Charles Dickens novel.

The problem is not just immigration... it is also Irish people's reliance on technology & the city, when they should be leading simple lives in the countryside, whether they like it or not.

I think you are correct. In as little as a year, a huge amount of employment could disappear out of Dublin for many reasons. Then, what do people do
