This is a thread to try and remember what we once were, and could be again - but only after tremendous struggle against those who are exterminating us.

These fruit and flower sellers were once a feature of Dublin, but have now been replaced by Nigerians.

A young lady waits on O'Connell Bridge. Although it's night time, she feels so safe that she can read a magazine and pay no attention to her surroundings.

his is a very early photography of O'Connell Street - or Sackville Street as it was then. It's from about 1860. Notice the statue of O'Connell has yet to be installed - it was not completed until 1880. You will also notice that the bridge is much smaller than the current O'Connell Bridge. The full length of the street is beautifully cobbled.

Construction of O'Connell Bridge as it exists today, with two lanes and as wide as O'Connell Street itself. This photograph is from 1879. Here we are facing south towards D'Olier Street and Westmoreland Street.

Mabbot Street, Dublin. This was the entrance to the infamous Monto, which was one of the largest red light districts in Europe until it was shut down in 1925. "Monto" was short for Montgomery Street - now James Joyce Street to commemorate the famous "Night Town" scene in Ulysses. Here working class Irish girls were sacrificed to the Gods of Capitalism, and to keep the troops of the British Empire feeling they had something for their troubles.

Michael Collins and Harry Boland were life long friends and Comrades in Arms. Tragically, they were both to die on opposite sides of the Civil War.

I love the photographs of Dublin from the 1950s. Dublin was still beautiful and photography had reached its zenith of technique. He we see Grafton Street - with its iconic Switzer's shop.

These images were taken by two french ladies in 1913. They were commissioned to photograph Ireland by French banker and philanthropist Albert Kahn.

He sent photographers to many countries to document the (by now dying) traditional cultures of each country. The photographs were taken using an early colour process and these are thought to be the first colour images taken in Ireland.

Cartier Bresson, considered one of the greatest photographers of all time, visited Ireland in 1952. Such a pity these pictures are not more widely available.

his very rare photo shows a famine survivor whose peers were practically wiped out by starvation and disease.
The incredible snap was taken in 1853 by photographer John Gregory Crace on the estate of the Duke of Devonshire in Co Waterford.

An eviction in the 1880s. The bailiff has put the family's few bits of furniture out on the road and nailed boards across the door. Irish Patriot Martyrs shed their sacred blood to make sure that Irish families would never have to suffer eviction again - but we are nearly back to where we were in the 1880s, as thousands of Irish families against face the bailiff and being caste out onto the side of the road.
