Maybe he had a religious christian upbringing to the extent of singing in the local Gospel Choir, i don't know but from watching TV back in the 90's we'd see big time American black gospel church choirs singing joyfully for Jesus and their devotions - Quite spectacular :geek: Sure Madonna's at it too though . . .?

Christianity should bring Diddy to heel and show proper respect?
Aretha Franklin sang in a choir and was very religious all her life --she was managed by her domineering father who fathered a number of children with her starting when she was 13 .
her life was a cess pit how she survived i do not know .
black culture is a mystery to me --wild animals have more humanity .
while i worked in England my friends at work were all black and some were from kenyna and some from ethopia -- they were the most gracious and sincere people i have ever met in my life and had the most elegant manners --they would put you to shame and you had to up your game considerably when you met their family as we Irish are not used to sincerity .
American city black people have a totally different culture .

Great post Aul Lad.
Despite endless American TV, I know little of what's been going on over there.
So many contexts to consider and fundamentally also the different cultures.
Race & Colour pale to insignificance in the presence of (you said it first) "Cultures"
And seemingly in these cases - It's Religious Cultures

So you confirm Aul Lad's claim about Franklin bearing children for her own Da???

No. I confirmed a "Great post" which is worthy of examination and a thoughtful reply, I'll get back to it later.

Here's one from the same post for you to consider . . .

It's horse shit.

Her father was allegedly a creep and philanderer. She has multiple children to different fathers, but her father was not one of them.

The thing is Aul, Aretha's Father's name isn't Edward Jordan. It's Clarence Lavaughn Franklin. That's the name he was born with, and he never changed it, nor operated under a pseudonym. The letters you're referring to were allegedly found after her death, scrawled on scrap paper, in a drawer. They have no provenance and the whole thing might be a ruse from another family member.

if you must know --type in "" Aretha Franklins couch will is valid """ to google and read for yourself how this document was examined by the courts and a jury ruled how her houses were to be distributed --her children accepted the verdict all except her firstborn who she gave birth to when aged 12 and like many children born of incest he remained in care all his life .
READ FOR YOURSELF IF THEY HAD PROVENANCE OR NOT. a simple google search before you re write history to suit yourself is always recommended.

Used to listen to modern music. Never liked the way it made me feel.
Now I listen to very old music, Gregorian chants mostly - or trad tunes.
Sadly going to have to miss the Tallis Scholars in Dublin next Saturday, as I'm rostered for nights atm.
I am glad the whole rotten industry is being dragged into the light. Foul, so it is.

Recently I've really got into opera.
Don Giovani is brilliant!

Trad music I tend to find Irksome after a while, love to watch people making music live, and I admire them greatly, but long bouts of diddly-dee find me looking for somewhere else to be. It is rendered utterly intolerable when folk start line dancing to it!

Tchaikovsky is the composer for me at the moment, he really is brilliant, yes the good old reliables, Mozart and Beethoven etc, are very good indeed, but there is always the feeling that they were composing for the popular market of the time, especially Mozart.

Anyway, here is something rather cute that you might enjoy -

Myles may laugh but truth be told there isn't anything that comes close to an orchestra to stir the emotions.

Listen to this Wagner piece, particularly from 4.00 minutes on, and try to not be moved.

Wagner, the great storyteller, but I always feel he is instructing the listener rather than carrying them along with his ideas.

Yet you are right, an orchestra can fill the air with a natural energy that other forms of music simply cannot match.

That's quite good Frank but I still prefer Fish's church hymn by that young lady.

Thanks for that link Fish. She’s amazingly talented. As you may (or may not) know. The Kyrie Eleison is part of the Catholic Latin mass , as is the Gregorian chant.

If you go into St Kevin’s Church on Harrington street in Dublin every Sunday morning you will hear this sung by the Dublin Choral Choir or the Children’s Choral Choir. They sing Gregorian Chant for the entire mass. The choir is amazing and sounds ‘other worldly’.

I’ve always half suspected that many people go there for what is effectively a free concert as it’s like something you would hear in the National Concert Hall.

I must admit I wasn't aware of that, and yes, I would quite likely find myself dropping in to St Kevin's if I were living Dublin way for the very reason you note.

Debbie Moore and Leo De Caprico . Why is this thread so dead?
The cRap music, it's none of our business - It was such a drag to have those fecked up tunes broadcasted on repeat on public airways for too many years. We don't want to be irritated, brainwashed, reminded ever again.

Same with the presenters - Most of the show is none of our (voyeuristic) business, Should we care?
