US censorship a sign of decline – analyst to RT

The decision by American tech giant Meta to ban RT and other Russian news networks is a symptom of the dwindling power of the US and its allies, Iranian professor Seyed Mohammed Marandi has suggested.
The Tehran University academic spoke to RT on Tuesday about the latest crackdown on Russian media by the US government and Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram.
ā€œ[Major] social media companies are controlled by the United States. They are effectively arms of the state,ā€ Marandi said, explaining why he believes Meta’s decision should be seen as a move by Washington.
The US previously tolerated some dissenting opinions in the press, but is increasingly silencing them completely or ā€œshadowbanningā€ voices it dislikes, the professor added.
ā€œAs the West further declines, I think that intolerance is just going to increase more,ā€ he predicted.

BRICS nations should do the same thing with social media that they are doing with international commerce, where they are introducing payment methods and other financial mechanisms independent of the US dollar, Marandi suggested.
ā€œIf the regime in Washington wants to control X or Facebook – fine. But they shouldn’t be able to prevent Iranians from saying what they want to say, or Russians from being able to speak to the world, or Chinese people from being able to speak to their neighbors,ā€ he said.

Ukraine is receiving less military aid from the US because the Pentagon finds itself short on equipment and ammunition that it can export without compromising national security, CNN reported on Tuesday, citing unnamed officials. Defense contractors have been unable to refill domestic stocks in time and it could take ā€œyearsā€ to ramp up production to properly restock, the broadcaster said.
Since April, none of the military aid packages provided by the US to Kiev have exceeded $400 million, with most of them worth between $125 million and $250 million, according to CNN. This is a drastic decrease from previous years, when US military aid packages fell within the $600-million to $800-million range like in 2022 and 2023, the media outlet said, adding that the largest in that period was worth $2.85 billion.
CNN’s sources pointed to America’s inventory and the Pentagon’s inability to replenish it. ā€œIt’s about the stockpiles we have on our shelves, what [the Ukrainians] are asking for, and whether we can meet those requests with what we currently haveā€ without damaging America’s national security, one of the officials said.

Ukraine could miss out on nearly $6 billion in US aid – AP
According to the report, the US produced 15,000 155mm artillery shells per month before the major escalation in early 2022 of ongoing conflict between Moscow and Kiev. Now, it is manufacturing 40,000 15mm shells per month. It would still take American companies more than a year to reach the target level of 100,000 shells per month, it said, adding that the overall process of ramping up production ā€œwill take years.ā€
ā€œThere are limits to how quickly we can draw down equipment without impacting military readiness, which is one reason packages get spaced out,ā€
one of the CNN sources said.
Last week, AP reported that the US could be left unable to spend $5.8 billion of military aid out of $13.4 billion approved by the Congress in April. The White House has asked Congress to extend the period of time when those funds can be used. CNN has since also reported that the Pentagon has also requested more time to spend the money. The deadline is the end of September.
The Wall Street Journal had earlier reported that Kiev’s Western backers have supposedly told it to abandon its hopes of defeating Russia on the battlefield. Achieving such a goal would require the West to ā€œprovide hundreds of billions of dollars worth of support, something neither Washington nor Europe can realistically do,ā€ the WSJ stated in its piece.

Russian forces have conducted a strike on Ukraine’s key military communications facility, as well as a number of other high-priority targets, the Defense Ministry in Moscow has said.
In a statement on Thursday, the ministry said that Russian warplanes, drones, missiles and artillery had successfully ā€œhit the main center of special radio communications of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,ā€ plus critical airfield infrastructure facilities.

Officials did not say where the center was located, nor comment on the extent of the damage.
Ukrainian media and officials reported several explosions in Kharkov and Sumy Region, with several blasts also heard in Kiev on Wednesday night. According to local officials, the strike on Kharkov used several ballistic missiles.
Russia continues to carry out high-precision strikes on Ukraine’s military installations, including mercenary bases, defense, industrial and energy facilities, while insisting that those attacks never target civilians.
In August the Defense Ministry claimed to have destroyed a command-and-control facility of one of Ukraine’s mechanized brigades with an Iskander-M missile, eliminating more than a dozen officers.

Ukrainian troops in Russia’s Kursk Region are abducting civilians and imprisoning them in Nazi-style concentration camps, Moscow’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, has said.
Speaking at the Eurasian Women’s Forum 2024 (EAWF) on Friday, Zakharova drew parallels between the atrocities committed by Nazi Germany against the Soviet Union during World War II and the actions of Ukrainian troops during the cross-border incursion launched last month.
Russian law enforcement agencies continue to collect data on cases in which Ukrainian nationalists ā€œforcibly took to Ukraine residents of Kursk Region who did not have time to evacuate,ā€ Zakharova stated.
ā€œThis is… a typical practice of the Nazi occupiers. Do you remember how they took the Soviet people... into captivity and slavery?ā€ she asked.

According to Zakharova, the Russian Red Cross has collected numerous eyewitness accounts of the abductions in Kursk.
ā€œIn fact, there is evidence that Ukrainian fighters are creating a kind of concentration camps in the Russian border area, where they are placing at gunpoint local residents who, for various reasons, have been unable to leave unsafe areas,ā€ she claimed.
Russian officials have repeatedly accused Ukrainian troops of committing atrocities in Kursk Region, including indiscriminate killings and sexual violence, alleging that scores of people were ā€œforced into trucks and taken in an unknown direction.ā€
In mid-August, a video surfaced on social media that appeared to show Ukrainian fighters in Kursk Region forcing Russian citizens – some of whom were beaten, blindfolded, and handcuffed – into a truck to be transported elsewhere. Footage that emerged earlier this month appeared to show Ukrainians torturing a captured Russian soldier by electrocuting him.
Other video footage featured Ukrainian troops taunting an elderly Russian man while wearing helmets with an insignia similar to that of the Nazi Waffen SS.

Weapons stockpile shortages will likely force Washington to delay shipments of promised military aid to Ukraine, CNN reported on Friday, citing two US officials familiar with the matter.
The report comes as Kiev has been asking its foreign backers to speed up the delivery of arms and to lift the restrictions on the use of long-range missiles for strikes deep into Russian territory.
According to the Pentagon, the US has $5.9 billion left in the special congressionally approved mechanism (PDA) aimed at fast-tracking aid for Kiev. However, the aid packages have been growing smaller as the weapons stocks dwindle, CNN said.
The currently available PDA is set to expire within the next two weeks since the House of Representatives failed to pass an extension on Wednesday. The White House may be forced to change its approach, ā€œannouncing large military aid packages that will take months to deliver,ā€ as opposed to smaller shipments, the channel said.

Is the end nigh? Here’s what the Russian Army has achieved in the last two months

Washington believes Kiev will need at least half a billion worth of PDA per month throughout fiscal year 2025, CNN reports, citing a senior White House official.
Last week, the Wall Street Journal said Western officials warned Kiev that ā€œa full Ukrainian victoryā€ would require immense resources that neither the US nor Europe can provide.
Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky is expected to present his new ā€œvictory planā€ to US President Joe Biden next week. The success of the plan will ā€œdirectly depend on the approval and support of the United States,ā€ Zelensky said.
Ukrainian commanders and politicians have repeatedly blamed the delays in weapons deliveries for battlefield losses and the failure to hold off Russian advances.
Moscow has warned that no amount of Western aid will stop its troops from achieving the goals of the military operation or change the ultimate outcome of the conflict.

A significant number of companies in the EU continue to discreetly do business with Russia despite the bloc’s sanctions, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has said.
ā€œHere I would like to disappoint the idealists, as the situation is that everyone in Europe is doing this,ā€ Szijjarto said in Budapest on Friday. ā€œ
The difference between us and the others in general is that we speak honestly and openly about this issue. All of Europe does business with the Russians, but some deny this; we don’t need that.ā€

Szijjarto added that Hungary does not agree with the sanctions, but since this is EU policy, Budapest respects them. Hungary typically vetoes specific EU proposals if they seriously harm national interests, he said, adding that developing economic cooperation with Russia is one of those interests.
The EU imposed sanctions on Moscow in 2014, and expanded them after the Ukraine conflict escalated in 2022. The main targets are high-value sectors of the Russian economy, including energy, finance, and trade.

Hungary has long been at odds with the EU over its approach to the Ukraine conflict and its sanctions policy towards Moscow. This makes it difficult for the EU to agree on new restrictions, Euractiv reported in August, citing diplomatic sources.
Many experts in both Russia and the West have warned that unilateral sanctions bring more harm to the countries that impose them than to Russia itself.
EU officials have also acknowledged that Moscow has been successful in sidestepping the restrictions. In June, Finance Ministry data showed that Russian budget revenues from oil and gas soared by 73.5% in January-May this year, compared to the first five months of 2023.

Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky is planning on dismissing Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and military intelligence chief Kirill Budanov, Ukraine’s Strana news site reported on Friday. The report comes less than two weeks after Zelensky sacked half of the country’s ministers.
According to Strana, both Umerov and Budanov have fallen out of favor with Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andrey Yermak.
ā€œThe fact is that there is serious tension between Budanov and [Yermak],ā€ an anonymous source told the news site, describing Budanov as ā€œone of the few remaining influential people in Zelensky’s inner circle who are an alternative to Yermak.ā€ The source did not mention any clash between Umerov and Yermak, but Strana claimed that the defense minister had recently fallen out of favor with pro-Western media outlets and activists in Kiev.
Budanov has led Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Military Intelligence since 2020. Umerov has served as defense minister since last September, when his predecessor, Aleksey Reznikov, was sacked following the Ukrainian military’s disastrous summer counteroffensive against Russian forces.

Throughout the conflict with Russia, Zelensky has typically responded to battlefield setbacks by purging senior military and political leaders. Those purged include the former commander-in-chief of Ukraine’s armed forces, Valery Zaluzhny, who like Reznikov was sacked after the failed counteroffensive.
Another wave of firings took place earlier this month, when seven cabinet ministers and multiple other officials were removed from their positions. Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba and Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Olga Stefanishina were among those culled.
While the mass firings came after Ukraine’s cross-border offensive into Russia’s Kursk Region ground to a halt and Russian forces advanced further in Donbass, some analysts viewed the purge as an attempt by Yermak to concentrate power by replacing the ministers – who are appointed by parliament – with figures loyal to Zelensky’s office.
The firings were viewed in the West as evidence of the ā€œincreasing dysfunctionā€ within Zelensky’s government, according to The Economist. Zelensky, however, insisted that a cabinet reshuffle was necessary in order to ā€œgive new strengthā€ to state institutions.

Video-sharing platform TikTok has deleted the accounts of RT International and several branches of the Sputnik media network. The crackdown came days after the US announced new sanctions targeting several Russian outlets, including RT.
On Saturday morning, the accounts of RT International, Sputnik Serbia, Sputnik Afrique, Sputnik Africa, Sputnik International, Sputnik Brasil, Sputnik Mundo and Sputnik Indonesia became inaccessible. TikTok has not yet commented on the development.
Sputnik Serbia has shared an image showing a query saying it could not find the account, adding that its page has also been blocked on Facebook, but remains operational on X.
TikTok, which is owned by Chinese company ByteDance, has come under intense pressure from the US authorities in recent months. In April, US President Joe Biden signed a law allowing the social network to be banned if it is not sold within a year.

Last week, the US announced sanctions against several Russian media agencies, including RT and its parent companies Rossiya Segodnya and TV-Novosti, claiming that they aimed to covertly ā€œundermine democracyā€ in the country. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also alleged that RT is ā€œfunctioning as a de facto arm of [Russian] intelligence.ā€
Following the new restrictions, US tech giant Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, banned several Russian news networks, including RT, citing their alleged ā€œforeign interference activity.ā€
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has denounced the new sanctions as an act of blatant ā€œaggression,ā€adding that the restrictions hinged on ā€œmonstrous and baselessā€accusations. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also weighed in, saying that Meta had completely ā€œdiscredited itselfā€ by engaging in what he called ā€œselective actions against Russian media.ā€

This remains to be confirmed, but:
Israel is becoming a ā€œpartyā€ to the Ukraine war.

Intelligence Community information indicates Israel is setting-up ā€œIron Dome-typeā€ missile defenses in and around Kiev and Nikolaev, to fight-off Russian Missiles. Here’s the rub: The systems WILL BE CONTROLLED EXCLUSIVELY BY ISRAEL.

Moreover, Israel will be implementing ā€œmobile radar installationsā€ in support of these missile defenses, and their (very quietly kept) intention is to ā€œgather as much data as possible on Russian missiles because . . . . they expect Iran to have such technology soon, if not already.ā€

This really is one of the most disgusting lumps of shite ever to crawl out of the abortion bucket.

Russia must understand that ā€œit’s over,ā€ and that Ukraine will not concede any territory for peace, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has argued. For this goal to be achieved, however, Kiev will need long-range weapons, NATO membership, and half a trillion dollars, Johnson added.
In an op-ed published in The Spectator on Saturday, Johnson argued that Ukrainian forces still have the ā€œability to win,ā€ if only the West would cave to every single one of Kiev’s demands. These include, he wrote, permission to strike deep inside Russian territory with Storm Shadow and ATACMS missiles, and immediate invitation to NATO with Article 5 security guarantees, and ā€œhalf a trillion dollars… or even a trillion.ā€
Disregarding Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent warning that enabling long-range strikes would place NATO in a state of war with Russia as ā€œbluster and saber-rattling,ā€ Johnson argued that these steps are necessary to ā€œsend the crucial message to the Kremlin.ā€

German chancellor told ā€˜Russia is militarily invincible’

ā€œThe message is: that’s it. It’s over. You don’t have an empire any more. You don’t have a ā€˜near abroad’ or a ā€˜sphere of influence’. You don’t have the right to tell the Ukrainians what to do, any more than we British have the right to tell our former colonies what to do,ā€ he asserted.
ā€œIt is time for Putin to understand that Russia can have a happy and glorious future, but that like Rome and like Britain, the Russians have decisively joined the ranks of the post-imperial powers, and a good thing, too,ā€ he continued.
The West, Johnson argued, ā€œmust abandon any idea that the Ukrainians will do a dealā€ or ā€œtrade land for peace.ā€
ā€œWe in the West would be mad to try to impose that outcome,ā€ he added.
Ironically, Russia and Ukraine reportedly agreed to a peace deal during talks in Istanbul in 2022. The agreement would have involved Ukraine declaring military neutrality, limiting its armed forces, and vowing not to discriminate against ethnic Russians. In return, Moscow would have joined other leading powers in offering Ukraine security guarantees.

Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky withdrew from the talks at the last moment. According to Ukrainian negotiator David Arakhamia, former US Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, and several Ukrainian media reports, Johnson was instrumental in convincing Zelensky to abandon negotiations.
Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and the deputy leader of Türkiye’s ruling party, Numan Kurtulmus, have also claimed that several Western states conspired to scupper the deal.
Five months after the Istanbul talks, Russia assumed control of four former regions of Ukraine. According to the most recent figures from the Russian Defense Ministry, the Ukrainian military has lost nearly half a million men since February 2022, and the Pentagon concluded last year that Ukraine stands little chance of regaining its former territories.
