Kadima Mbuye, 53, a failed asylum seeker from the Congo who has been living in Ireland for nine years, was charged at a special sitting of Newcastle West Court in Limerick on Sunday with intentionally engaging in offensive conduct of a sexual nature.
A patient in University Hospital Limerick recovering from major surgery last March said she was terrified after the Congolese man allegedly broke into her room in the middle of the night and started masturbating in front of her.
“She said she was scared to scream as she couldn’t physically move due to her surgery. She was terrified he was going to attack her,” said Detective Garda Fiona O'Connell.
Mbuye denies the charge but was denied bail.
In 2021, Mbuye was accused (https://www.sundayworld.com/crime/c...l-staff-with-knife-granted-bail/40637378.html) of threatening staff with a knife at the Travelodge Hotel in Ballymun.
His Defence solicitor had told the court he was in discussion with the Dept of Justice in relation to voluntary repatriation but that it was a complex and lengthy process.
