When Hitler first went to the meeting of what would become the NSDAP there was a speaker who wanted Austria & Bavaria to become one country & leave Prussia on its own.

Is this similar to how much Ireland believes itself to be separate from the UK? Bavaria being the equivalent of Scotland.

It would be as if someone suggested Scotland leaving the UK & combining with Ireland, or is it?

I've often compared the two relationships which obviously differ in detail, but I think there is much to support a comparison.

The Prussians under Bismarck had to fight Austria in a war to take the 4 'Unter Main' states in southern 'Germany' as prelude to German unity.

The idea of a unified Germany was a very short lived reality, especially in comparison to the UK. If we accept the Iron Curtain division after 45 and the AfD majority in the former East Germany is it fair to ask if Germany is even truly united today?
