Traditionally, women had the choice of guys in her local area only, now they have the whole country, or even the whole world, so they have much more to choose from. But it's only the top 20% of guys, maybe less, that they are interested in and get the hook-ups, with the other 80% getting nothing. Catfishing experiments have shown just how much women love Chad - when a guy is so good-looking that even telling the women he is a convicted pedo in his profile doesn't put them off.

I'm not entirely sure that the state of modernity is conducive to marriage, or at least happy ones--at least for younger people. It's a subject that requires a lot of thought, but I'm of the opinion that there hasn't been a good generation of human beings produced since the silents. They were better than us. They were happier with little and in the face of tragedies lurching in to one another more or less continuously. They lived and enjoyed what I suspect I couldn't have survived. They had standards. They knew that life was hard, and made the best of it. The following generations were brought up in such decadence that they actually went looking for misery. Either that or they revelled in hedonism and continue to do so.
