A theory selects and corrals a set of facts, and names this set of facts as a theory (usually).

A good theory is open to facts. If any facts that the theory ought to encompass come along and don't fit very well with the theory, or the theory does not account very well for these newly discerned facts, then the theory is discounted.

A bad theory, also called dogma (and conspiracy theory is basically one variety of dogma), is always careful to exclude facts that do not corroborate the theory.

The dogmatic attitude typically adopts a variety of devices to "fend off" any of these "undesirable facts".

For example, insisting your theory is a fact would be one such device. I.e. The theory is not open to any of the testing or challenge that a theory would normally invite.

In the election we apparently voted 90% + for pro-immigration parties, but this poll shows 73% think “There should be very strict limits on the number of immigrants coming to live in Ireland.”

There is even massive support for the Great Replacement Theory.

“Elected officials want more immigration to bring in obedient voters who will vote for them.” 19% agree, 18% are “not sure”.

“The establishment is replacing white Irish people with non-white immigrants.” 19% agree, 16% are “not sure”....."

The article does actually address the great replacement theory, which is actually a conspiracy theory

Either "Replacement" or "Great Replacement" is the posited explanation for a set of observed facts, and conjectured facts (counterfactuals).

For example observed facts encompassed by the (plain) theory:

a. Visibly changing demographics particularly observable in some small towns, parts of cities, the staff of hospitals, nursing homes, and a raft of lower paid places of employment that pay insufficiently for those who had their expectations raised during the so called "celtic tiger".

b. Changing policies of immigration, driven by factors including the ponzi element in our economy , and particularly by the problem of the reduction in the ratio between the population in working-age group 15-64 years and the population 65 years or older, or the potential support ratio (PSR). I.e. Not enough working-age population to support the needs of the older retired population.

c. Photos on social media of refugees traveling to Europe, fleeing war, and so on.

So all these kinds of facts, many of which are observed through the lens of social media, and also the many counterfactuals also driven through social media, encompassing hypotheticals, and wished for scenarios, and idealised pasts, and futures, demand some kind of encompassing explanation.

So you have "replacement" which suggests a dynamic that puts people, particularly proponents of the theory, in a central relationship to these facts and counterfactuals, the theory includes them, in fact it positions them as the victim of these observed and non observed facts.

Now you also have "great replacement", which is a variation on the theory - the addition of "great" suggesting conscious willful agency behind the "replacement".

And it is this variation that prompts people to say well then, it is a conspiracy theory.

But actually there are variations on the central theory, that explain the observed facts (from certain perspectives) and the counterfactuals (again strongly driven by personal perspective), by this theory claiming that the explanatory dynamic involved should be characterised "replacement" etc.

No one is going to vote for the likes of Barrett or that postman dog kicking chap, or the long line of other losers.

Would you also call it a “great replacement” the aggregate of a son “replacing” his father over a similar timespan? Does it not seem like a silly word to use? Is it not deliberately loaded? If the father was of the easily suggestible type, and told he was being “replaced” by his son, might he not be tempted to carry out a “Titus Andronicus” on his son?

The Great Replacement is the title of a book by a French author, who has repeatedly said that he didn't mean it as a "theory" in any way, shape or form
