The vaccine was designed for the original variant. It was highly effective against this variant. Fact.
The mistake made was to allow the disease to spread, to loosen restrictions when the vaccine was still being rolled out.
Vaccinating while allowing transmission and multiplying cases was a recipe for vaccine evading variants.
Governments fucked up by pandering to populism. The restrictions needed to be kept in place worldwide until at least 80% were vaccinated.
I'm not saying that was politically achievable. Certainly listening to the fuckwittery on this thread you wouldn't think so.
But technically, that was what needed to be done to stop the pandemic in its tracks.
No doubt the vaccines had side effects. But statistically, a tiny fraction of what Covid itself is capable of.
Covid is now a slow moving train wreck instead of a fast moving one.
The irony is that governments are guilty of the exact opposite that you chumps accuse them of. In their rush to go back to "business as usual" they misrepresented the science -- the effect of the disease on people, including long covid and organ damage, and indeed the nature of risk itself.
