Nobody is saying Barrett is a fighting man, he is the brains. As was shown in that recent interview, where he was not at his best either but he still routed the other four

I feel again, your gut is right. And it looks like Barrett knows it and has instead formed a militant group.
 
That is a good point now that you mention it. Some years ago a micro group called identity Ireland had there very small leader bashed on the Luas train

I am calling for him getting 1500. That number of people supporting an extreme stance would be a massive win imo.

He's not caught in the middle, he sided with Reynolds who has now thrown the party under the bus.

Reynolds should stand down now and leave the party. It would be nice if Barrett and Quinlan could work things out, but it would be foolish of Barrett to trust someone who betrayed him, so I don't think that will happen. Quinlan should leave the party if he is not willing to have Barrett as leader.

Justin and his National Party also scored a massive own goal by having a policy of bringing back the death penalty, if instead of death they had a policy of a minimum sentence of 50 yrs without parole for murder, it would actually be popular with the general public

Being pro-life isn't very popular either. It is more important to stick to principles then diluting them to appeal to the public. The death penalty is not mentioned that much by the NP, and their policy is to be only for extreme cases, so I don't think it would lose them too many supporters. The death penalty policy might scare away some people but it does attract others - it's definitely one reason why I support them.
